Ramon, the tolerance of 2mm is per side, so 4mm total or 2mm total which mean 1mm per side ? I guess that's the last one but I have to ask.
it's 2mm per side.....

Mazda's rebuild criteria for the rotary is here...

Thank you Ian, very good book, I'll keep it on me every time now

I have a question I forget to ask, why there is tall ports on the center plate, and they put small ports on the intake manifold :?

Why not Tool, it's a good idea :P we just have to fix a day, like this I can bring the parts from work to home.

Last monday I disassembled the third engine, but I was not alone. TOOL came by to help/assist me in the process. It was a nice meet, he gave me a lot of little tips and advice !

ImageImage

But before he came I started to remove the accessories, and after a bit it looked like someone tried some porting.

Image

I manage to save the oil pan gasket, it wasn't looking bad, like if it have been changed recently.

Image

Ok, now the engine is ready to be open and TOOL is here, so we started working.

Image

I notice that this time there is 18 bolts on the end plate when the Mazda manual say there is no n°6... (which mean only 17) :?

Image

Time for the openning

ImageImage

And one more time, bad surprise inside... That's some nasty porting :(

ImageImageImage

We also found some weird sealant in the water hole of the front plate...

Image

The rear rotor lost his bearing

ImageImage

The front rotor seems ok

ImageImage

I don't have good pictures of the housings, but they are missing chrome but it's not deep, TOOL said I could eventually re-use them the day there will be no other 12A housing available.. something that could happen soon. But they are almost for junk...

I'm a bit dissapointed with all this.. am I really meant for the rotary world ? I don't know it might be a sign.. or maybe the hard way to get in ! I will not give up

Now the long process of cleaning and checking all the parts from the two engines has begun. I will post some pictures of the housing, and some of the checking of the parts !

Thanks again to TOOL ! You were helpful ;)

A pleasure mate. We'll meet up again soon. Awesome place to work btw. No pictures shared ;)

Check this out: http://www.autoscout24.eu/Details.aspx? ... 9880000000

Has your name all over it.

I'll put up some more pics next week. Basically, the engine we stripped was ported into the corner seal area. I'm surprised it worked tbh. The obvious killer was the spun rotor bearing on the rear. The oil pump was heavily worn. Corner seal springs were all flat too. The apex seal springs were deformed as well.
All this coming from overheating and poor oil pressure is my diagnosis.

We'll get the remaining parts to you dude and then we can build

This is exactly the shape I am looking for :) but it didn't stay long... the ads is already removed...

Here are the pictures from the housings...

ImageImage

I've decided to check and open every pieces I could from the second engine who is the most damaged, to understand how everything works and try to put it back together !

I started with the front cover, I broke it during the trip to bring it back home... And one of the stud of the third engine was bent, so I took one from the second front cover, but it was longer and cleaner, so I changed both of them. Did anyone know why they are longer ?

ImageImageImage

And after, I worked on the oil metering pump, it's a complicated piece for sending oil in the mixture and have the combustion chamber greased !

ImageImageImage

I'm not sure it will work again but it's back together

There is so many different plates, it just makes you wonder if they care at the factory : "Oh look at this plate it will fit this engine, give it to me!"
How's your engine build coming along?

I'll answer here to not disturb Ian thread.

It's been a while since I worked on the engines because after a long time of cleaning parts and seeing all the trashed one, I had a loss of motivation :( I didn't wanted to keep spending money in buying dead engines to make one... And at the same time we had some trouble at work, it was not going very well. So I took a break on the rotary, and internet broke so I wasn't able to follow all the forums...

But now I'm here found motivation to get back in the rotary world :) , but the build of the engine will stay in stand-by for now, waiting to find the right opportunity.

Keep in contact, dude.

We can get you parts, cheaper than guessing with dead engines.
