Thank you mate, this is my first restoration I've undertaken and at first I looked at the shell of the car and genuinely didn't even know where to start but I've figured if I divide everything up (engine chassis bodywork footwork interior electrical brakes suspension blah blah blah) and then divide then further into even smaller tasks etc you get the picture lol and now it really doesn't seem that daunting. Plus being a Marine helps a fair bit when it comes to getting fed up with a task as all I think is I could be in a feild in the middle of nowhere soaking wet at 0300 like I have many of times before ha!richrx wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 7:25 pmI don't think you need much support. The work going on here is phenominal ( from my point of view) time and effort commitment ....
You seem very confident and competent too... Loving all the updates,i can't add much other than the above and enjoy all updates... Keep loads of photos coming makes the early rides for work worth it

Hello mate, those look gleaming! The reason I'm asking about the fastners is because I got the car in about 10 boxes and alot of bolts are missing etc the majority of the parts are there but the nuts and bolts aren't - is the zinc coating easy enough to DIY? Thanks for the info if I'm stuck I'm sure I can find some UNF fittings.danny wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 9:34 am I have been reading your thread, and i must say i'm impressed with your commitment !
One thing keeps appearing, the metric fine fasterners. Why do you need them, why don't you re-use the original one's? I used all the old ones again when i rebuild my 929 Hardtop( no RX4 ). Claened them up, a few minutes in acid and zinc-coated them myself. Problem with supplyers is, that you need to buy a complete box of one size most of the time. There is a store close to where i live, in Belgium, you can buy them one by one. Other solution is to find these bolts is at the scrappers. All older Mazda's and most of Japan-build cars use the metric fine threads.
Rear suspention parts i zinc-coated myself using a vinegar/salt bath and a battery charger.
Cheers hobbawobba I will be sure to check them out!Hobbawobba wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 7:32 pm I tend to get my stuff of ebay.. There are a few suppliers I tend to use for getting stainless and plated high tensile bits aye. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Kays-Fasteners Is a good one. They usually have multiple listings for the same items, with some being cheaper than the other. So keep an eye out!.
Mean progress aye bro. Gonna be a minter
I'm going to smooth the wheel wells with fiberglass putty, so basically I would normally put a zinc primer down and then a underseal to provide a tough durable coat for the wheel well. But as this isn't going to be a daily driver or ever used in the wet I'm totally smoothing the wells and using seam sealer and then will paint over with a 2k hi build primer and then paint them the same colour as the bodywork which should look great. Plus I'd like the wilwood big brake kit and the ACBRON coilovers to standout and there's nothing worse than a messy wheel well whilst admiring a nice set of calipers and coilovers! So today I spent a good few hours stripping down the Right hand wheel well and grinding the welds down from Saturday night/Sunday morning. Took alot of the underal off too - I'm glad I did as someone previously had painted it over rust, good thinking batman.
Will update tomorrow when it's fully stripped.
On another note the guy in the bay next to me sprayed his reliant scimitar over the weekend what he thought was a red and it turned out pink hahahahahah will try get a photo tomorrow.
