Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
TWiR is up to her usual tricks again. Was going to swap out the tie rod ends today since it was nice. Not a big job really. But the second split pin snapped and is now jammed inside the bolt with the loop end inaccessable ( well, to me anyway). Arrrgh! I've never not been able to remove a split pin WTF
More thought required for the second attempt.
I decided to embark on something else so as to not waste the nice weather entirely. Swap out the clutch master cylinder for a shiny new one
The fluid color has been getting progressively darker.

Crusty old one has stuck down a few times and there is evidence of leaking on the bulkhead.

Probably overdue for replacement

Access to the cylinder mounting points from inside the car reminded me that I am not in my teens or twenties anymore.
However, after some cursing (which is always helpful), it all worked out in the end. I used a looped cable tie to keep the actuator rod straight while sliding the master cylinder unit into place. Whoever put that tip up on here, thankyou

haha, changed mine not long ago... it's a pain in the arse to get in there
While I was in there I wanted to do the master cylinder but this one appeared to be completely stucked on the firewall
I'll change it... some other time lol

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
Dave, I have just changed mine (inner & Outers) & I had the same problem with the split pins, in the end I had to knock the eyed end in as far as I could & then undone the Castle nut which just cut through the mild steel pin, the other one that sheared I used a masonry nail (having ground the point flat) & managed to hit with a lump hammer until the eye came out enough to lever out with a bradawl, another one of those "quick" jobs

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
Tiny HSS drill, about 1/16th inch and just drill gently down the line of the pin.
It usually fragments. Need to be gentle as the bit might 'grab'

Great tips guys. I'll take them under advisement. Quite liking the HSS drill option although I'll need to get the front of the car up a bit higher. Will have a go on my next days off.

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
I'm entered in the London to Brighton Classic Car Run again this year. Not long to go now (June 5th). Unfinished business from the 2014 event which ended kinda early

Anyway, I found this neat decal on a certain popular internet auction site but I'm undecided if I should put it on the car since it's the only one I've ever seen, like, ever
And I don't essentially have to be in the lead ....
