Halfway to fixing a minor disaster from this afternoon. Only wanted to change the thermostat




Luckily, I have a spare. It's from my old motor so I get to add some new DNA


May have to make a gasket up though


A quick look at my spare tells me that it's held on by four nuts. And the Haynes manual (useful for once with a handy tightening sequence diagram) confirms this.
It's worth a crack then ....

This is the housing removed and I managed to rescue the gasket as well YAY!


And this is the replacement, hastily painted. Fitting tomorrow so please cross fingers collectively.

lol, bit drastic replacing the entire waterpump housing for a broken bolt Still, it looks moar nicer for a lick of paint!

It was the only option as the remainder of the bolt refuses to move.

Ten mile motorway test is all good. Long distance test tomorrow

Long distance test was successful. I am running a thermostat rated at 82 degC. It was also from my busted motor but still good. The running temp has come down as well so I guess that the stat which came with the replacement motor had a higher opening temp. So my theory was correct and it's always nice when things work out finally.

I must give Mister Tool a big shout out for this rather epic streetported 12a. I've had carnal knowledge of bridgeported 12a's from back in my RX3 days and the power there is all at the top end. With this streetport, I can do 5th gear passes just with squeezing the secondaries open ... the power gains come lower in the rev range.

Yeah, that's a good motor there. Dry stored, oiled and turned over while it was out.

So I was feeling a little guilty about not doing something car related this afternoon after work as the weather was rather sunny and nice. I thought I'd attempt a simple job ... swapping out the fuel filter which was only supposed to be there temporarily (because it was the wrong one) but has been in there for over a year!

But it was never going to be that simple. Exhibit One

Luckily, I had some fuel hose left over from when I replaced the carb hoses so all is now well. Too dark for an 'after' shot but I'll get that done tomorrow.

Get out there and check your fuel hoses folks. Surprises await

One of those "Quick" jobs that turn into a longer one. On the one hand you are glad that you found it, but on the other you have to spend more time on that little job! The age of our cars means that wherever we look we will find something

The 'quick job' tends to involve a snapped bolt or screw where TWiR is concerned so this one was easy in comparison. Even the hose clamps came off in one piece. I did get a decent sleeve full of fuel though
