Interesting, there are many benifits in using a synthetic oil, low viscosity, helps engine cranking, additives etc, longerlife of oil,
Here is an interesting faq

If anybody is interested here is a nice oil comparison tool, its free,
Really shows the advances in oil over the years.

https://www.lubrizol.com/EngineOilAddit ... fault.html

the valvoline race oil specs are as follows
SAE 20W-50
API SL
ACEA A3/B4
Ford M2C-153E
GM 6094M

so any acea A3/B4 meets these specs,

Oh I know they don't so didn't mention the 5w30 magnatech I use. Just re-irrerating what Tool and few others have said that Mazda recommended castrol engine oils and for their diff oils etc. I have heard of royal purple in the states being used.

Seing as we dont now the history of engine we are going to install, I shall recommend mineral oil, but if this was a new build I would be putting synthetic in it,
Points noted about seals and carbon deposits.
We have three engines, the best compresson one is going In

As far as i'm aware the car still has the OMP,so do i go with 10w30 mineral,20w50 mineral or Castrol 15w40 semi?

I've used Castrol Magnatec 10W40 or its predecessor for the last 30 years in mine and it's still running ok.

My intended next oil purchase:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/370546840579

It's the right grade. It's the right weight for our climate. It's cheap as you need to change it regularly. Even more so on a BP due to fuel contamination of the oil.

£2.25 a litre

I use the same brand (but right spec for the car LL04) in my diesel BMW.
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
