TWiR 1986 S3 TWR

Some of you will know this car already as Fizz had it for a while. I've now adopted it into a good home and have christened her TWiR (or will do once she arrives back from Doctor Hayward). This is also the first time that I have ever named a car! (am not sure if this is significant or not)??

We really liked this car Dave when it 1st came up for sale.... it was a bargain but miles away from most of us..... fair play to Fizz, he put the miles in and snapped it up. It'll look the biz if you get Marc to mop it. I used to have a red s3 TWR as well so looking at your car takes me back!

Took a drive down to Hayward Rotary yesterday to see how TWiR is doing. A few small electrical issues still to sort, tuning all sorted with proper mazda leads going to the proper places unlike before. Waiting on idler bushes as well. Will do a full 'this is what they done' list when she comes home which is looking like Friday.

Will still need to find another gearbox, might look at doing it myself although would prefer to enlist some assistance rather than relying on Mr Haynes.

Anyway, more after I get her home, will be rather nice to drive her sans detonation and would be a shame not to test the buzzy thing in behind the dash as I haven't heard one in over 10 years.......

depending on your acccess to get underneath the car, changing the gearbox is a doddle and can be done start to finish easily inside 2 hrs. I'll scribble out a step by step guide if you want one, easier to follow than the Haynes guide.
Remember though that you need a replacement gearbox from a series 3 RX7. Each series 1,2 & 3 had different speedo ratios and aren't interchangeable...... if you put a s2 box into your s3 car, your speedo will be miles out. While the gearbox is out, for the sake of an extra half an hour, it's worth dropping the clutch out as well and giving it the once over.... unless you've got paperwork showing it was recently changed.

If you pull the speedo drive out Marc, the drive cog is coloured (green, white etc).... I can't remember which is which at the moment.... but I'll check it out later and let you know. It's the only way to positively confirm which box you have.

It's kinda mx5 / USDM biased, but the transmission section does have information about all the type M gearboxes and thier ratios, and identifying the speedo drives.

I'm confident this 17 tooth Green Speedo Drive is from an S2, 'cos I took it out of the gearbox.

I think S3's are Black colour??
