LOL Eagle Eyes! Sadly I only get the PG version for Nikki but I do get to retain the choke function for cold start hapiness.

.... or even happiness
And on that note, I've finally found a tame welder with added mobility who will take care of TWiR's gammy chassis rail.
It's all happening on Monday the 19th. Progress

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
good news
makes sense to do the repair now plus it's so much easier to clean up the engine bay with the engine out.... and it ( hopefully) won't be coming out again for a while. Are you going to upgrade to an air-cooled oil cooler while you're doing all this Dave?

Will stick with the beehive for now and look at an upgrade for the future. Gotta give the spending a rest for a while

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
Been doing a little bit of work whilst waiting for various senders, pipework and hoses to turn up. Also larger spanners for the removal of the oil pressure sender
Some low level obsessive engine cleaning.

Water pump and thermostat housing need repainting

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
It turned out to be a nice afternoon today in terms of temperature so I thought it would be rude not to do some rotorcave duty. First thing was to swap the water temp sender out. The one that came with the motor had seen RX2 duty so I guessed it probably wouldn't send the right signals to a RX7 temp guage (or maybe it will? I dunno. Does anyone know for sure??} So, found an Intermotor item that referenced back to the factory part number (Rx2 on the left)

But alas .. it doesn't fit. Lacking in the girth department

This is what it should be ... back onto the To Do list then
(and the original put back in place to prevent ingress of anything just to be safe)

Next, swap out the oil pressure sender for the same reason .... note that S3 item is biggerer (it's that size thing again)
Had to break out my man size socket set for this one. The little one needs a 27mm socket

I'd won a nice dremel tool on EBay but, somewhat predictably, that hasn't shown up for the weekend so I made do with some wire wheels and my drill for some more essential cleaning while I wait for bits to screw into the motor. Dremel will be a lot more accurate but this will do for now. For your comparison sil vous plait.
I have no idea what the 8341 is in reference to either

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
If ever there's something that desperately needs modernising and standardising, it's thread size and pitch. Because that water sender looks tapered it's probably NPT (maybe 1/8th?). The replacement that doesn't fit could be any number of alternative... standard fine, metric, God knows what. You've got about seven to chose from. You can thank our American cousins for the hilarious invention of a tapered thread. Presumably just to make cutting it an absolute PITA

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
The RX2 never had a temp sender in the rear plate, so this one came with the NOS plate from the factory. It will work fine.KiwiDave wrote: The one that came with the motor had seen RX2 duty so I guessed it probably wouldn't send the right signals to a RX7 temp guage (or maybe it will? I dunno. RX2 just has the sensor in the back of the water pump.
I know for sure the RX7 one does not work correctly with RX2, so does need to be swapped.
Partial part number I would have thought.KiwiDave wrote:I have no idea what the 8341 is in reference to either![]()
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
Thnx Tool .. so that's the senders sorted then. It's just the adaptor for the oil pipe to sort now. I'll get round to going front mounted oil cooler at some stage. it's just that I have the beehive setup here already so no additional spending required
