Thanks Ian. The issue came up in a thread on RX7.com ... and it's not mentioned anywhere in the Haynes manual either

Now I know this doesn't go any way towards getting the motor out but I do love an EBay bargain, oh yeah :)

Hawk HPS front pads ... only £17.95 delivered :D Cheap as! I use HP+ for trackdays and they perform really well and not so agressive that they start eating the disc. I've been looking for the HPS (High Performance Street) pads for a while but not at £40 + post. The best I'd found was at £28 + post. So yay for me :)
And they came with some high temp grease as well ... nothing beats a bit of lube ;)

Getting this broke ass motor out

Post by KiwiDave »

Now this will assist in some fashion. EBay to the rescue again :D £95 (which equals a couple of weekends to rent one). Yay for me again (and saves a ton of FBcking about with trying to organise stuff).

Call in the heavy artillery ...

What a useful piece of equipment and an obvious decision against renting or hiring and you could always sell it afterwards and still make a profit - gr8 buy th:

ian65 wrote:the bolt hole in the rear iron for this bolt is threaded so wind it out, put some bigger nuts or washers on it to pack it out / shim it and then tighten it back up with the lifting eye still attached. Doing this means that the bolt will still be secure but will no longer go all the way through the iron and the bellhousing meaning you can easily separate the engine from the box but still use it to lift the engine out and back in
I decided to get a little more done since I had a spare hour so thought I'd get to work on that bolt ..... take a look at this :o

Image

There is the nut but note the absence of a bolt head on the other side :?: I couldn't get a proper shot as there was only a small gap to fit the phone into and no real light either but you can still see ..... no bolt head!!!! WTF?

Image

So my question is ... will the bolt just slide off the gearbox since it has no head or is the bolt threaded thru the gearbox as well?
NOTE .. I did not touch the bolt, I swear. Someone else dunnit! So I guess the motor has been apart at some stage!

Or maybe the plan has to be motor and gearbox out as one unit and then take care of it?

it'll just slide off.... the threaded bit is in the rear engine plate, the hole on the bellhousing is just a plain hole..... that will come apart no problem..... once the engine is out you can do the double nut trick and wind the rest of the bolt out.

And one more thing! Removal of the radiator has revealed this ...

Right side inner chassis rail just in front of anti roll bar. Left side same location is fine. Obviously has not been seen for some time and not noted on any MOT sheet. Would it be prudent to get it seen to now??

definitely get it welded up now.... any serious corrosion like that within 300mm of a mounting point is an mot failure
