Heart Surgery for TWiR. 12a or 13b ??

Post by KiwiDave »

Just testing the water here ... what's out there :?:

Running 12a / 13b six port

Useable 12a housing / S3 front rotor

13b housings for machining (is machining uber expensive)??

S4 gearbox (if the motor is out then why not)?

Probably not much help to you, as I won't know until the winter, but I might have a spare rotor and housing going - does it have to be S3?

S3 is different to S1/2 so needs to be the same or swap rotating assembly.

Dave, I'm really sorry to hijack your thread a bit here...but I'm learning stuff

I'm looking at building an engine out of the two I have, as I thought it would increase my chances of having good parts, if I had 4 of each to choose from (if that makes sense)...
I assume my engine is from an S3, as the car is, and I think the engine I got to replace it is an earlier one (the one I got from the very kind Mr Tool :D )

Does this mean I have to keep to the parts I have, or could I use an S2 front rotor/housing, and an S3 rear? Is either better for running with the Elford?

If I can't play swapsies, it will mean I might have a spare engine up for grabs!

You can swap housings as you like.

You cannot mix S2 and S3 rotors. S3 rotors are much lighter. See here:

https://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/rotorwgt.htm

Rotors must be a matched weight as well. C weight should go with C weight. Not more than 50g difference, ideally much closer in weight or balance the rotating assembly.

Matching front and rear counterweights or flywheel also required.

S3 auto rear counterweight NLA from Mazda and none in stock at RB or Mazdatrix etc.
I have one left for sale ;)
