It's been non stop excitement in the life of TWiR. Recently, I got a call which went something like 'There's a magazine which needs a RX7 and would you and your car like to be involved? (And the publication in question just happens to be one that I subscribe to..... and it's only the biggest classic car publication in the UK)

Q. How many times in my actual life is that ever likely to happen?
A. Not many ............ if any!

So, ummm, YES PLEASE, sign me up!!! In fact, I'll hold the pen and you just move the paper. :D

And the whole point is that it takes a good enough photo and not that I need to start using words like concours, patina and provenance!

So there is rust in all those RX7 places, and stone chips, scratches and mismatched paint.... but the nice digital camera makes it look seven tenths of alright.

So if anyone here also reads the publication in question (Classic & Sports Car), you will know that one of it's writers (sadly not involved in the feature) happens to own a rather nice Ro80 (FAR 666K to be precise).

And so, one morning in a pleasant but damn cold corner of somewhere called Bucklebury, TWiR and I rotored up to meet some new friends

We all did the intros and proud owners huddled together inside a warm barn with warm beverages while the cars got to do practice poses and get felt up and poked and prodded by photographers................

A genuine supermodel was watching from the sidelines

We then moved on for some drive past shots out on the road, taking it in turns to drive up and down a stretch of road firstly past a photographer and then following behind the camera car a-la Top Gear Stylz. Finally, James Page (Deputy Editor and MX5 Owner) got to drive each car and then turn that whole experience into some words ......... magic happens ............ and it all comes out as this ...................... Ta Dah !!!

Go on .... go out and buy your copy .... you know you want to

....blah blah blah .... and now the best bit ;)

And there you have it. Turned out good innit? Thank goodness for touch up paint and black insulation tape, works a treat!

And there's a typo for added interest

I'm expecting a disc with better pics so that's still to come. Must go and check that my head is not too big to fit in the car!

It's happened to me twice now, strangely :? But it's a most triumphant achievement and TWiR looks excellent in the pics, Dave. Well done, mate. I went all the way downtown to get a copy t'other day but it's not on the shelves yet, you obviously got a special dispensation copy for being a media celebrity 8-)

I'm a subscriber so we get our copies before t'other folk ;) So maybe you could sign my copy of Car and I'll sign your copy of C&SC and then, errr ..... (I haven't thought this through actually) .... I'll just get my coat then

Good question Ian. The running report on the MX-5 would have been James Page's car which he still runs. I'll have a look back thru my few boxes of issues and see how many proper features there have been of the Nippon variety.
There was, quite recently (Nov 2012), a three way featuring an Austin Healy Sprite, Fiat 850 Spider and Toyota's little Sports 800. And I do know that Martin Buckley (Ro80 stalwart) has a soft spot for, of all things, the Nissan Cedric Estate!! :o
