Goodwood - Pics Inc FB Content!

Post by Steve-A »

I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time this year, and wow, I'm going again! :D As proper car geek it was amazing. To be able to get some close to so many of the all time great race cars was just brilliant.

I took my camera and here's a random selection of the pics. No particular order or anything and I missed many many awesome cars, to be honest I was trying not to spend the whole day watching the show through a lens, otherwise I might as have just sat at home and looked at other peoples photos.

Anyway I'm sure anyone whos reading this will have decided to do so because it says there's an FB in my pics. There is, and it looked mean, unfortunately it had the wrong heart :( I'm sure the cosworth turbo engine pulled hard but it's just all wrong. :( Apparently it used to race in thunder saloons in the 80s.

On with the rest of the show. Some of the classic bikes made awesome noises.

Nothing compared to a 500cc v4 2t though, I'm a particular fan of this bike, but Mr Schwantz was going quite gently which was a shame.

The group C LeMans cars and other 70s/80s endurance racers had so much presence, it just made me wish I'd seen the 787b last year though...

mmmm Tippo 33/4 :o :o :D Drool. I may have got a bit distracted at this stage....

Anyway, composure regained...

Was great to be some rally legends in action too (non action photos I know...)

The dullest set of cars up the hill were the super cars really in my opinion. After all the full blown race cars they were quiet and slow. Well aside from this one....

Finally the F1 cars through out the ages were great to watch and get up close with. I cant quite imagine driving some of the 70s machines which huge power and no grip! While I have no pictures of it, Nick Heidfeld thrashing the 1998 Maclaren hill record holding car up the hill was astounding, it was soooo loud and so fast. That really stuck in my mind.

So yeah, I'm going next year for sure! :)

Good set of pics Steve, loving the Alfa's, Lancia's and SWB Quattro. That F40 makes my pants stir as well. (hp)

Mmmmm those touring cars of the late 80s early 90s were great especially the Alfas. And must have been nice to see some of those rally cars in the flesh- did they go up the hill?

Speaking of rally cars has every one watched this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... est_Years/

Mental!

I think some of them would have been loaned from museums, but this way you get to hear them and see them drive by at full throttle rather than just sit static. :)

All of the cars pictured went up the hill ::) The rally cars also had a special rally stage built in the trees at the top of the hill, as I only went for the one day I didn't make it up there, was too distracted by the rest of the show. It seems that was a mistake as I missed out on seeing all the group B cars in action, including the Lancia 037 W(p and a group B spec FB complete with proper peripheral ported rotary :( Next year, next year........
