For the want of a better title...MazdaFest 2013

Post by Marc S »

Hi all,

As you may or may not know, as well as skulking around here with my FB, I am events manager for my other club of choice, Club323F...and I am looking to organise a track day next year

However, it seemed that a normal "open pit lane" track day can still be quite expensive, and there is a mix of people and cars that attend (not always a bad thing of course ) and I figured if we opened the event to other clubs, numbers would increase, and costs would decrease

I have been in contact with Thruxton, and if enough people are interested, I can book the entire track, complete with marshals, recovery, medical cover etc - and the resulting cost per car would be about the same as a standard open pit lane day...well, the same as a half day in Thruxton's case...£200
The event will be late May/early June, hopefully with some good weather!

£200 might seem like a lot, but it would be a full day - 9 til 5, all day track access (although they can only let 34 cars out at any one time) and I am trying to arrange for a few other things during the day, such as a Show & Shine competition etc
There would be an entry fee for people not going out on track, something like £15, if you just fancy coming along for the day out, and to watch

Currently I am looking at MRC, Club323F, various MX5 clubs, the MPS club, and here of course - basically, if it's a Mazda, it's in!

At the moment, I am gauging interest, getting a feel for numbers etc, so please let me know what you think, if you would like to attend, and any other comments ideas etc

cheers,
Marc

I'll put in my interest vote at this stage. It should be just enough time to get all the bolts loosened and bushes freed up. V(o

Sounds good. The only thing I would suggest above what you have already, is some form of overnight camping, so people can round out the day with a few drinks, music, bbq, and what not.

Don't forget the bigger clubs like FDUK!! They have been known to have 30+ cars turnout at some events last year. 8-)

Just checked a map. Thruxton is a pig of a location. Ideally somewhere central would be better wouldn't it?

Camping should be available, and I am working on a disco :)

yes, Thruxton is quite southerly, but I need to go a few times to arrange it all, and most of the "central" tracks are already on the calendar for the events we usually attend...

Having said that - this is still at the discussions stage, so it is not fixed yet - if I get a good deal from another track, I'll take it :)

Thruxton's a great track, the fastest in the UK and easy enough to get to, it's just off the A303. Go down the road a bit and see Stonehenge lol. It's always really windy and seems to be cold all year round, though, it's quite exposed.

I could be interested, but there do seem to be an awful lot of shows this "summer" and I may have to start prioritising, there's a limit to the wife's leniency

Is that as in 3,000,000 miles away? Stone fecking henge?

Is there a De Vere Stonehenge?

No I'll sit this one out but I applaud the spirit of a meet up........map, compass, draw circle, radius 25 miles.....hmmmm too far, better make it 15 miles....
