HELP! Random spigot bypass oil doobrie needed

Post by Lucky »

I seem to have broken something :oops: More annoyingly, I'm not even sure what it is or how it got broke :evil:

I was trying to replace the fuel hoses to the carb, which I noticed were cracked and perished when we did the mani gasket the other day (haven't even managed that, had the wrong size hose :roll: ) but while I was in there I noticed a hose flapping loose and free. It's the one that goes to the base of the oil filler neck, I'm guessing it's some sort of oil pressure bypass thing. It comes from a big fixture on top of the inlet manifold, which is where it's broken. The steel insert has a sorta bakelite or something cap with a spigot that the hose connects to, and it's not surprisingly this that's got baked and mullered and just cracked to bits. It fell apart just taking it off to see if it could be fixed :evil: Irritatingly, the big steel threaded bit has a spring-loaded valve in it, but the plastic plug that's broken has the other half of this vavle integral to it, i.e. a rubberised stop for the valve plunger, so I kinda need both bits.

Maybe some pics will help.... the fixing wot has brokened;

and where it bolts to;

I'm guessing the odds of anyone having one that isn't equally as FUBAR as this one are slim, but thought I'd ask. Does anyone even have an idea what it's called? I'm guessing it's important and I can't just plug it or anything?

Might have to brave the Mazda parts desk, it'd be nice if I had a name/part number to give them at least. Any ideas?

it's only a crankcase breather, when i put the Elford manifold on mine, I lost this thing along with the stock inlet manifold and I just ran a bit of hose from the oil filler thing to the ground.... no problems.... Some people reckon that you need a bit of vac on the breather to stop the system emulsifying but I've never had any problems.... I think James is running the same system as me too.
if you look on Pedros car in the US, you can see he's put one of those hose filter things on his.
If you just want to replace it, I've got 3 in the garage on old stock inlets.... one of them is bound to be ok.... i'll have a look tomorrow

Yeah, I noticed he had a little K&N on the filler neck. So I could just plug the fixing on the manifold completely then? No ill effects?

If you have a spare one in decent nick I'd be very grateful, Ian W(p Just in case, like ;)
