Rear suspension bolts

Post by Smiller18 »

Hi all,
Is there a way to find out the bolt size and thread from the part number?
I'm after the spec of the rear control arm and shock absorber bolts so I can replace them when I do the arms.
Mazda part numbers #030528111B and #124328111.

the trailing arms are m14.

Shock absorber lower bolt is m12. Top post of the shock Is m10 nuts I think, but could be m12. Smaller than the lower shock bolt anyway.

I think the watts arms are same as the trailing arms.

I use JIS bolts like factory, so the factory anti rotation tabs work on the head of the bolt. JIS has a smaller head size. Important for the trailing arms, not on the shock bolts. I use ZEDparts for JIS bolts as they're local to me, but they do mail order. I also grind a long lead in taper on my bolts to make them easier to get in! Make sure to use a thread chaser/thread file after grinding.

M6 and smaller JIS uses the same size head.

M8 DIN uses 13, JIS uses 12

M10 DIN uses 17, JIS uses 14

M12 DIN uses 19, JIS uses 17

M14 DIN uses 22, JIS uses 19.

Fun fact a 1/2" bolt uses a 3/4" head, which is bang on a 19mm head, my race car uses both M14 bolts for the lower arms, and 1/2" for the rod ends on the third link and panhard, so its 1 size tool for all the rear suspension bolts even though the fasteners are different sizes. And you can't mix the nuts and bolts up as they're not close enough in size, so it works out quite neat, even though I hate using inch bolts on an otherwise JIS car.

while you're doing the arms get some energy suspension poly bushes in the arms. I just did mine, second car I've done poly bushes on, and I did rod ends and adjustable billet arms on my race car. I got my energy bushes from https://www.autoperformancepartsdirect.com/
