New Rotary owner - Ontario Canada

Post by bluestingray »

Hello everyone! I'm glad to meet you. My name is Joel and I am now the owner of my first rotary-powered car! I've got a 1982 Mazda RX-7 GX with 90,000kms. It's a Canadian car, but has never seen winter driving, and has zero rust on it. The colour is Sunbeam Silver, it's manual, and it has 4 wheel disc brakes, red leather interior and cassette deck. I'll post some better photos when the weather is nicer.

Mmmmm that is a tidy looking car. A nice way to start rotary ownership.

Hi Joel, Welcome.
Mazda seemed to like Sunbeam Silver (Paint Code K3)......they carried this through different series and models.
For example there are 2 MX5's within a couple of hundred yards of me in this colour.

But red leather seats......lovely.
Mind you, we've got genuine 1980's velour.....nice!

GX? You mean a GSL or is it a GSL-SE?
Great looking car :)

Remember to check that your OMP is working correctly and not sticking like mine was. It only had 79k km on the motor and was never winter driven. Came from Nova Scotia. Gas tank was disgusting inside too (rust). Fuel filters are Key and clean oil :)

Very nice clean original car 8-)

I always find it very interesting how Mazda specified these cars for different regions.

Canada got similar specification levels to the US market (albeit with different names as I just found out, never heard of GX before) but one key difference I've noticed is that Canada got headlight washers and the US didn't.

Furthermore, headlight washers were standard in both the UK and Australia but not Japan. In Japan it was only an option.

I've gotta say, I've never needed to use headlight washers once. Are they useful if the headlights are covered with snow or sleet? I can see that UK and Canada would have similarities in climate, but Australia? :?:
