Dellorto 48 carbs NEED HELP!

Post by sir_wankel25 »

So I am new to this forum but I've always been in love with rotaries as I used to own an rx8. The other day I bought a project FB... my first rx7! So needless to say once I bought the car for $100 and a ps4, it didn't run, but after cleaning the carbs I was able to get it running but it won't stay on more than a few seconds. Unfortunately the previous owner wasn't ever able to get it running so he didn't know much of what was on it. Long story short I'm trying to get the carbs to idle but I'm unsure what to set the mixture at on these carbs as the engine MAY? Have a street port. But definitely has some pretty large headers. Just don't know what kind of idle I need to look for, and how far out the idle mixture screw should be. Whenever I had the choke on it could idle at about 1500rpm with the lopey sound of an aggressive,to mild bridge port engine but i wouldn't know how to tell. I will try to post some pics or a video of the choke idle, Any advice would help greatly thank you!

Hi welcome to our club! So if it will idle on choke but not without lets look at the basics when the chocke is applied you are restricting the air goning into the carb and richening the air fuel mix a standard 12a idles @ 750 rpm according to the haynes manual so you are double i would say you have an air leak ie air is getting in elswere raising the rpm or as the car has not been running correctly and or stood the carb has got varnish / silt deposits causing a restriction in the idle circuit within the carb.
Firstly check for air leaks around the inlet manifold paying special attention to any gaskets / blanking plates that have been fitted if the emmisions system has been removed and the carb base/vac hose conections visual is sometimes not enough i spray carb cleaner on the areas and listen for rpm pickup !
Next if no leaks are found pull the carbs and strip do a full clean
Hope this helps
