Possible Chump Car

Post by mlstraw »

Hello. I am looking at a 79 RX7 for possible use as a ChumpCar racer. We are currently racing a Toyota Celica and want something a bit faster but just as inexpensive to race. The car we are looking at is an incomplete race car build. The builder passed away before he finished and the widow is selling it. I came here looking for info on things to look for when buying an RX7.

Well we just bought the car. Looks like it was being built for IT-S but was never finished. Has a full cage and adjustable front suspension. Comp springs and a rear sway bar in the rear. Fuel cell and big fuel pump with braided lines in cut into the hatch area. May have to take a few of the go fast goodies off and replace with stock parts to make the maximum competition value for ChumpCar. Does not look like the engine was ever hooked up so I am not sure what condition it is in. Will find out once I get it back to the shop. Got the whole lot for less that the cost of a roll cage if we had started with a street car.

I think it is a 79 but need to run the VIN to know for sure. Is there a handy VIN decoder site I can use?

Thanks, I was wondering about the distributor. I don't think it was ever hooked up in this car.
