Retro Rides Gathering 2011 - August 21st

Post by MelloYello »

Info here-
http://www.retroridesgathering.com/

From the guys that run the retro rides forum.

I went went to last years event at the Hatnes Museum in Yeovil. Great day out, well organised and entertaining too! Not just a park and show event. They had time trial and drifting last year, with a drive what you brung format. Just the one write off.
This year it is at the Prescott Hillclimb. Good variety of cars.

Only spotted one RX7 there last year, lets change that.

Prescott is just up the road from me, so I'm in for this!

Hey Guys

I am heading to Rotorstock on Saturday, camping somewhere?, and then going to RetroRides Gathering on the Sunday.

Is anyone going to either?? Would be good to see some more FBs in the flesh and meet their owners.

Is anyone heading up from London? Could meet up and roadtrip it?

Looking forward to getting out on the sprint track at rotorstock and then up the hill at prescot!

might be an idea to drop the interior out again then Steve if you're going up the hill.... surprising how much daft things like door cards weigh on these cars.... as we know, the best way to add speed is to 'add lightness'

If it was timed up the hill then I'd be doing that, but it's not going to be timed and just for fun so I can't be bothered :P

The fact that my clutch is on its last legs is going to be much more of a limiting factor!

Reto Rides Gathering

Post by Steve-A »

Hi guys, thought you might like to see the video clips James (Silver Arrow) kindly took for my on Sunday of my car at the Retro Rides gathering going up the hill.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEV_aAMoKlU

The clutch was slipping even worse than on Saturday, partly due to being thrashed up hill and partly because of Saturday! Either way it was still incredibly fun. I did my first run at about 75% going for it, to kinda get a feel for the hill. While its not apparent in the videos there were some damp patches from over night still hiding under the trees. The first clip of me is from the first run. I then did a second run and went for it more, but the clutch was really struggling by this point. The second clip is from further up the hill on the 2nd run and you can hear the clutch slip like mad when I stamp on the power. With the clutch struggling so much I decided to opt out of the 3rd and 4th runs so that I'd have enough clutch left to drive to work this week!

I've got some more clips of other cars at the event that James filmed just uploading now, my internet's being flakey so could be some time though.

Overall the Retrorides gathering was immensely fun. There was such a variety of cars and a real relaxed fun feeling to the event. My girlfriend came with me and enjoyed herself, which was pretty good going for a car event!, the food was good, Prescott is a hell of a location.

It was only £10 to go in and £20 if you wanted to go on the hill, next year we've gotta get a bunch of FBs together and get a show stand :) Given the choice based on this year, I'd choose this over rotorstock.

I'd definitely be up for this.... Rotorstock / Santapod isn't my cup of tea at all which is why I gave it a swerve this year.... the Retrorides meet is much more my thing and I love the hill climbs so Prescott sounds good to me. Be good if we can get some of the 1st gen guys together and turn up together... we should try and organise ourselves for next year.

Yeah it would be great to have a little collection of 1st gens together. It's free to have a stand, we've just gotta let them know far enough in advance.

Theres about 1000 more pics here: http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... ead=110825
