Motorsport at the Palace 2013 - Crystal Palace

Post by MelloYello »

On Sunday 26th of May I attended MOTORSPORT AT THE PALACE. This is Held at Crystal Palace Park in south London, a venue with a long motorsport history. This is an event organised by the Sevenoaks and Districts Motor club and incorporates part of the hill climb / time trials competition calendar. Therefor there is some exciting on track entertainment as well as the static displays and paddock walks. The usual stalls and food vans are plenty, and best of all just around the corner from me. I have tried to attend for the last few years but for what ever reason could not, now I wished I had tried harder as this was a great day out.

On entering it seemed like the usual fare, a nice Mustang.

Some big rat US thang

Some French cars from the days when they still made good cars

This thing (cannot remember name) was one of those brit powered fiberglassed bodied small company cars. It was low. And proof that owners of yellow cars have a certain je nais se quoi when it comes to style.

Plenty of MGs

This unusual leather clad beast

This was in a Camaro. I heard it start up later and from across the other side of the park it sounded like the end of the world :)

This one for the Norton fans out there. Still trying to work out where they put their balls cos they must be big!

Then I made it to the Start Line and it got more interesting. These guys were really giving it their all. Nice to see given that there was some expensive and vintage kit on show.

This Ferrari 308 GT4 was nice, had not seen one in the flesh before. Shame about the fat git in the high vis.

I do not know what most of the vintage stuff is but it was great to see them on track and being used! And they sound awesome at full throttle.

For the last run of the day we made our way down to the hair pin and waited for some action.
Only one competitor really gave us a show-

And this guy failed to slow down in the run off area, got some sun glare, hit a bank and rolled it. Who would have thought a mondeo could be so exciting.

I have this in the calendar for 2014.
