Hi there, this is John from North of Chicago just barely in Illinois, I live near what we call the cheddar curtain (border with Wisconsin(known for cheese and rivalry with IL)). I recently started working with a friend of mine on a 1984 Rx7 that we intend to run in the 24 hours of Lemons event in Joliet soon. I do not have any experience with rotary engines but have been working on pushrod engines since before I could (legally) drive. I am joining up to listen and understand how to make this car we will drive reliable and as fast as possible. Thanks for letting me on the list.
John G.

Re: Hello from Chicago
Hi John, and welcome to the forum. Hope you won't regret the switch from pushrods to rotors, are we talking American V8 style things there? Or Harleys?
"Cheddar curtain" gave me a good laugh
We have one of those between England and Wales but it's made out of mutton

Wales?
I was born in Wiltshire, just up the road from you I think...
I started out on big US V8 engines, love a good Oldsmobile 455.....(that's roughly 7.5L of engine for the non-imperial folks). Worked my way into electronic controls with GM 4 cylinders with distributors and ignition chips. Finally came out the other side with direct injection and computer controls... I know more about how to tune the old stuff though, simpler tools, more art to it.
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'll see if I can post a picture of the 84 we've been working on and give an update after the race (24 hours of lemon in Joliet (near Chicago))... (I hope we don't blow it up) We were able to get the timing set last night. The main pulley was off by 90° so we moved that and timed it. Runs smoother now. We are going to replace the brake fluid with a sturdier brand tonight and fill any holes in the floor. After that we are ready....

Hi John
24 Lemon. I have heard of this (or one similar, there are probably many)
Yes please to photos and start a thread as this sounds like a fun project, I would like to keep track of your progress.
