Hello from South Africa

Hello All, h:

My name is Keith and I am the proud owner of a 13B powered 1981 RX7 GSL :D

The car is a work in progress as it had suffered lots at the hands of the previous owner but is slowly coming back to life.
So far the car has had the rust sorted out, a coat of paint, carb rebuild, MSD coils and plug wires, replaced the points dizzy with an electronic one, complete set of suspension bushings, new shocks all round, new discs, pads and callipars have been overhauled, all new brake lines and stainless flex hoses and a new scratch built wiring harness as the one that was in the car was hacked to pieces...... And as of this afternoon, a new windscreen, all the way from USA.....

The biggest problem with owning a rotary and especially a 1st Gen Rex is parts, there just aren't any in South Africa, you either order from outside the country or find the tools to produce what you need! th:

Hi Keith

Greetings....those cracked discs are interesting. What caused that? Any Idea?

Hi Codge

This was as far as I can tell down to age... The discs were the original ones that it came with from the factory, that and with it having been standing for a several years, the discs clearly didn't like being used again!

Also the car does get used for track days every now and again so heat could have been a factor, either way, the new dicsc have made a massive difference to feel and stopping distance.

Hi Keith,
welcome to the forum h:

1st gen parts, especially used parts, are dirt cheap in the UK. You would have to stand some shipping costs but most parts you need should be available through the members of this forum..... we do tend to look after each other on here.

cheers,
Ian

Thanks Ian!

I will keep that in mind as I have a few bits missing from the car still. These include the the front mazda badge, hand brake cover, rear trim piece that goes between the tail lights, etc.

Car shows promise, and a belated welcome to the forum. How come you have an errr... orange Blue Box of God intake? :? Those discs are properly ugly. I only once had that happen to me, on some badly warped FD discs that then began to crack. But even then they were drilled, never seen plain discs do that before

The first couple photos were of the day the car arrived and trust me, the intake and random orange tube were among the first things to go! The photo does not show how nasty it really looked!! :o

I am hoping to get a few photos of the current status of the car up soon, things are starting to look good and run well!

Once all the handling gear is sorted, I would really like to change to a 48 IDA Weber to clean up the engine bay and add that little bit more fun and probably blow the tyre budget... :D
