Well that was an eventful day out. Left home at 0530 and returned at 2215. Glad I am not working today.
Had some fun on the way up with Nik, Tool, and myself attempting to convoy our way there. I say attempt because thanks to a fuel pump that decided to work only some times I had dropped off the pace and in the moments that followed Nik and Tool lost each other. Very amusing but we got there eventually.
Arrived to an already impressive line up of FBs, the best in some time I bet, and met/caught up with faces old and new.
I spent a lot of time queuing. At the entrance. At sign on for the hillclimb. At the entrance to the hillclimb. At the start and finish of my 3 runs up the hillclimb. Got to meet and talk to some interesting folk while queuing so not all wasted time. And got to sit behind the Benetton Formula 1 car as it shot up the hill!
The hillclimb itself was fun. Although the first two runs were inhibited by the lack of fuel. So if you saw the first two runs and it sounded like i was backing off - I was not. The third run however was a blast with the pump running as it should.
On my return I found only gtjames left at the stand
As the sun was still shining and my mind was all things automotive I decided to travel further into the hills of Worcestershire and visit a lady that I had met a couple of years ago when she was trying to sell her S1. My memory proved right and I was able to locate her house. Nobody appeared to be home so I wrote a note and was placing it in her letterbox when I heard a voice from above - " is that an RX7" as the lady hung out of her upstairs window. Short story is it is still in her ownership and I just need to turn up with the cash that she is asking. It is still how i remember, overall very solid, with a rusted left rear arch, 80-odd-thousand mile on the clock. Interior is sweet apart from a few rips. A gamble I am willing to take.
So feeling good I started on my way home. By this stage my phone had gone flat and I am a good 4 hours drive from home. Pulling out of the Warwick services on the M40, I am cruising along at 70mph, I move into the middle lane to pass a truck, the traffic ahead is beginning to build up in a concertina effect so I back of the accelerator . . . . . . . . BANG. Rear ended. Fuck me, if I was doing maybe 60mph how fast must this lady have been going? And to not see a yellow car with its lights on??
It was an almighty hit as you can see by the damage to her car, and fark I am sore today. A lesser driver would have gone into either lane and caused more problems. Does not look too bad in the photos but it is damaged pretty bad underneath and you can see the damage to the exhaust tip. The impact managed to dislodge the electric radiator fan!!
Still had to drive all the way to SE London.
