While I'm waiting for assorted bits and bobs to arrive form faraway places, I thought I would address the issue of some garage incontinence

TWiR has been leaving assorted little puddles all over the workshop. So when I discovered that Essex Rotary has a handy dandy little kit to convert sump bolts to studs, I decided to do something about the situation.

I'm not a big fan of the little oil pan bolts, not since I snapped a couple whilst removing them so this little kit was a perfect solution for me.


Now, it's not the most difficult job that I'll ever do, but it is time consuming. I can honestly say that I've never been out from under a car and back again quite so many times in a day.

I decided that the best way to tackle it would be dropping the connecting rod for the steering, thus gaining reasonable access to the sump. And I am fortunate to have a tame garage buddy who happens to have a puller to seperate the taper joints. They come apart with quite the heart attack inducing noise too.

Sump removed and studs inserted (eventually). There are 22 of them.

That is good for a days work, as we all know well a "Quick" job on a classic never is. Did you find any sludge in the bottom of the sump as it all looks pretty clean?

Could have done the rear springs while you were there

In the best Blue Peter style, the oil pan was one that I prepped earlier. It was off the old broken motor.

A little bit of sludge in the pan that came off but nothing unexpected.

And I'm still waiting on the spring rubbers to arrive from Japan so I cant show you any special rear end action Pete

I hope no more oil will found the way on the garage floor anymore. Especially after you hill race when the thinner oil have found a way.

Thomas.... what colour would you have painted it......maybe a nice Green, Pink or Black.

Nice work aye bro! I reckon one of those sump brace things would be a handy thing to have also. But have no clue if anybody even makes them these days

I was actually going to rattle can the thing but I surcumbed to the 'who is going to be looking under your car?' argument, which at the time was quite a reasonable question.
