So I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge (in addition to the stock electronic gauge) and an oil temperature gauge. These are old school gauges pretty period correct for this car actually. And they were brand new in box, work great :)

So replaced the driveshaft today. Boy what a difference! Car is sooo smooth now, no vibrations at all. Runs perfectly, very comfortable and easy to drive.

Break in period is over so time for its first freeway pull! I'll let you know how that goes.

Also, more upgrades coming soon!

So the car pulls nice and hard on the freeway. It's got power, but I can't wait to build a custom exhaust for it. The stock exhaust is restrictive and leaks a lot. Also just got done pressure washing the undercarriage.

So today I added some more grounds, just because... I placed one from the alternator directly to the negative battery terminal and another from the negative battery terminal to the strut tower.

Those grounds are the real deal. We call them Earths over here......nicely lugged up I see...... s(c)

I would rubber boot that +ve alternator output nut though.

It smogged today so the stock exhaust will soon get chucked into the weeds. I also installed a 330mm Nardi steering wheel and hub.

Yeah I will no worries. I keep forgetting to snag one when I visit the junkyard.

Very nice 8-) I was wondering whether to polish mine up, wish I had now

Those gauges look cool, too. Are they at all accurate compared to the stock ones? Or, I should say rather; are the stock ones reading the same values?

The stock gauge reads pretty much the same as the mechanical gauge, but the mechanical gauge is a bit more accurate, and quicker responding. Its not a huge difference, the stock gauge will still tell you what you need to know but the Mazda factory race preparation manual recommends using a mechanical oil pressure gauge instead of an electronic one. That's the main reason I decided to run it, and also, I like having the redundancy. I've already had the stock gauge malfunction because of a bad sender unit. This way, I'll know if the sender unit goes bad or if their really is a loss of oil pressure.

Yep, makes perfect sense to me. It's interesting to hear the Mazda gauge is at least accurate as far as it goes, anyway. Don't remember hearing of oil pump failure on an RX-7 but given how much work the oil does in a rotary it definitely pays to keep an eye on it. As an FD owner, I'm pretty paranoid about how fragile the Mazda instrumentation is... it basically seems to be very accurate. If it's actually working at all :evil: They all stop working sooner or later, that's the downside
