Nice weather today for a short trip to take KIMI 2 to a local car show alongside the river Colne :)

Good to see another rotary turn up too, a 2004 plate RX-8 (forgot to take a pic of it though :oops: ).

I had the front, passenger-side brake disk getting a lot hotter than it should, so took off the caliper and found the sliding bolt was bent and the piston seized :( . I pumped the piston most of the way out using the brake pedal, with a block of wood in situ. I then removed the caliper from the car, hoping to get the piston out the last bit with an airline. Nope, 8 bar wouldn't shift it :( - I ran out of time and will give it another go tomorrow.

The caliper looks manky too, so some cleaning up and a rebuild is in order. I did the other side some time back;

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2989&hilit=caliper+rebuild&start=14

I have another rebuild kit and some VHT paint, so hoping the piston is in reusable condition, when I get it out. Will either have to put the caliper back on the car or cut off the dust boot and squirt some penetrant around the piston in the hope that will feel it enough to air-blow or wiggle it out!

Meanwhile, I need to get some replacement sliding pins. This is from the rear of KIMI 1, so I need both front and rear. I haven't put them side-by-side, so not sure if they are the same, or not.

Any advice, and sources for the sliding bolt would be most welcome (and piston source, should it come to that)!

Thanks guys, the only possible source I was aware of was Bigg Red. I used them to refurb a pair of rear calipers for KIMI 1 a couple of years back. I've just shot them an email enquiry.

I finally got the piston out :x I had to put it back on the car and stamp on the brake pedal a few times, nothing else would shift it! Can't detect any pitting on a quick look at the piston, so will clean off the staining with 1500 emery and re-check. Caliper bore looks OK, so will clean and paint as I can'r put it back on the car looking like that :oops: :)

Oh dear, Bigg Red have replied:

"Hi there, Thank you for the enquiry but unfortunately we cannot help with these sorry.

They are very difficult to source. We have known people have to make new ones to fit."

:shock: That's a surprise - if these guys can't get them, that's a little concerning. Surely these bolts are not unique to this car model, or even Mazda?

Any other ideas? ...or maybe I'll have to find a local machine shop who may able to make some....
