New Guy Here

Post by IndyREX »

Hello all. I will shortly be the proud owner of a 1985 rx7. I have wanted one for a long time. To sum up this as quickly as I can...
My best friend bought a 79 sa x years ago. Ran fantastic but was extra rotton. About a year or two later he bought this 85. Real clean. Ran ok but not as well as the SA. When it finaly gave out we swapped the SA motor into it. If I remember it was around 70k miles on the SA motor. He drove it for a while. Put a full racing beat exguast on it. He parked it at my place after he got a new car. I drove it for a bit. Then my brother bought it. But it wouldnt start. Carb was no good. Brother got the carb fixed but gas tank was bad. He fixed tank but never put it in. It has been sitting for a few years. Im bringing it back to life. I love this car. I have hundreds of hours in it. The only thing my buddy did with out me was the brakes and the beat exguast. It should fire up when I get it put back together. The carb is fully redone. I drove this car home from my wedding. I will not be getting rid of this.
I would like to rebuild or replace the motor come tax time but with 12a housings no longer avalable what are my options? I would love to keep the 12a and get a street port for a little more pep but more intrested in longevity than power. What say the experts?

Hiya, and welcome along :D

I'd have thought what with the number of 1st gens sold in the US it wouldn't be too much trouble finding decent 12A housings still? I don't believe 13B are still maufactured anyway are they?

New 12A housings are still available if you look around the interweb. Not cheap but. Look in the for sale section here ;)

13B housings are readily available. Convert your 12A to 13B with RX4 style 13B housings, rotors and eshaft.

You'll need 3-4 12A engines to get enough parts to rebuild a 12A unless you get lucky.

Welcome aboard.
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
