mine buggered over the weekend all started when i drove over a cobbled road in pursuit of a pretty girl got to the end of the road and the steering went funny began wandering to one side and a rattle coming from the passenger side, got it up today on the ramp and there was no bushes in the idler whatsoever, it would appear as though both have fallen out, when you turned the wheel the whole thing just jumped out of the housing, anyway made a few phone calls and no one stocks them so gunna order some of the net, for the time being got some polyurethane pipe (freind has a plastics factory) which just fits perfectly over the little shaft idler thingy and leaves enought slack for the whole thing to turn, to be hoenst the steering feels excellent, no play and turns sharply!
The Bullit as its affectionatley known needs rebushing completely!

The Moog idler arms are very popular in the US. They use a greasable "gusher bearing" that I'm told is more durable than the plastic bushings in the OEM setup. Since the idler arm is on the exhaust side in the US, the extra heat may exacerbate the problem. Mine recently failed during a track day, and the vague steering made my session very challenging. I replaced it with the Moog unit at the recommendation of many others. It's more robust than the OEM Mazda idler arm, and seems to be well made. If there's a RHD version, it might be worth a try.

Yeah I have been in touch with Moog and explained that if they made a RHD version of this it would sell very well due to the Aus/NZ/Jap/UK market, but not interested.elwood wrote:The Moog idler arms are very popular in the US. If there's a RHD version, it might be worth a try.

The way those things are made, the arm and gusher bearing bolt to the frame bracket. I think the arm and gusher bearing would work on either LHD or RHD. If you machine a mirror image frame bracket, you'd be all set. It might even be possible to cut it out of L-channel with a multi-axis laser.
