What is the best Oil to use in a Rotary Engine?

Castrol would be my usual having run gtx magnatec in my subaru turbo for years. GTX is part synthetic though? Do you run 10w40?

Definitely part synthetic. You can get a full mineral oil from Halfords but my plugs don't foul and I get good cold and hot starting. If you're really keen. Go full synthetic, remove the OMP and premix with 2 stroke.

My Mazda RX-2 manual says Castrol GTX 10W40 for -18C to 40C and -10C to 40C spec is 20W40 or 20W50.

I run a twin dizzy engine too so I can use the same oil in both twin dizzy and FB (or other) engines. No difference between a 10W40 and a 20W50 as far as I'm concerned.

Halfords still sell a 10W40 mineral oil...I ran mine on it for a while...I run it on Fully Synthetic now, without the OMP...I still use Halfords though, I still have a few leaks, and it's cheap enough with my trade card

I use Halfrauds cheapy mineral oil, have done ever since having a rotary. Figure if it stands up to the stresses of a 430bhp FD the demands of my li'l ol FB aren't gonna trouble it too much

Can you use Castrol R as a pre mix ?

Castrol R, while smelling nice it's based on a castor oil.

Castor oils are much worse for our health, and more importantly, they go off and will separate from the petrol surprisingly quickly. The guys who still use it in classic race bikes etc, recommend mixing a jerry can at the start of a race weekend, then shaking before filling the tank each time and finally when the weekends over they run the bike dry, to make sure the whole fuel system is emptied of it.

You're much better off with a modern synthetic / semi synthetic oil, for example Castrol's Power1 Racing ( what used to be TTS) is well thought of in two stroke bike world. I've used it for years.

Just had a look on the halfords webpage and can find

Halfords 15W/40 Mineral Engine Oil 2L
Halfords Classic Oil 20w50 5L

It looks like they used to have

Halfords 10W/40 Enhanced Mineral Oil

But seems out of stock every where

What does 4L cost you from Halfrauds?

The price varies a little, depends on costs and mark up etc, I think the last 5 litre bottle of 5W40 fully synthetic was around £26...instead of £38

I use Fuchs Titan in my 323F, costs me about the same with my discount at Opie Oils, but it seems to burn off a little quicker

I hate Halfrauds with a vengeance. £14 for 4L of GTX delivered to my door sounds good to me.

I use Valvoline mineral racing oil, pretty much only because I like the can. Saying that, I abused NEV for a year solid and he didn't blow up so can't be all bad. Looked just fine when I did oil change so seems to hack rotang life okay.
