Fog light conversion

Post by ian65 »

dumped the horrible 1970's style dangly fog light today and did the reversing light conversion....I painted the bulb with some of Sallys red nail varnish but the light is still a bit pink, rather than red.... any ideas how to brighten it up and make it more 'fog light like'... ie bright red?

This is what I used :) For £2.50 its not worth spending any time making your own one more red :)

Somfink like this so it doesn't look cack when it's not actually lit up? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-REAR-FOG- ... 4161d48a34 I hate the look of clear lenses with red bulbs behind them, looks rubbish. It's like clear indicator with fried-egg orange bulbs, why not go the extra 99p on chrome bulbs, FFS  [/rant] sorry, just one of my pet Room 101 things

EDIT.... something like this would represent the cheaper option but make sure the pin pattern is correct, offset or 180 degree, etc, and make sure the bulbholder phsyically can accomodate the extra diameter of the LED head first lol. Nothing more annoying than having to whittle the aperture of the lens unit bigger to get the bulb in  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra- ... 2eb686e2ce

I used red bulb paint (foliatec) and it works really well - you don't really see the bulb until it's on in the FB light unit, so no worries about red one side, white the other ;)

much brighter than an LED version - I have tried several in my 323F, and went back to a bulb in there in the end too :)

Definitely have this to do on the long list of jobs.

Not knowing the UK regs I assume it should go on the street side of the road and one reverse light is AOK?

yeah Tim,
just use and convert the drivers side reversing light...... as long as the NS reversing light still works, you're still legal

Reversing lights are not an MOT requirement. Never had mine checked.
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......

I suppose I should have said 'still ok' rather than legal..... unless he wants to strip both reversing lights off his car...
if doing the 1st gen rear light conversion,it needs to be the drivers side reversing light that gets converted.

Just to confirm:
-Reversing lights are not a requirement for MOT.
-Red bulbs will perform the task of being the fog light, without having to paint them.
-Fogs are not required for cars registered before April 1st 1980

My question: Are the indicator bulb pins offset or 180 degree?
