Mazda RX7 1st Gen series 1 - 1980 - £14,500

Post by willspin »

For sale is my awesome Mazda RX7 series 1, Gen 1 (SA22) registered 1980 (Road TAX and MOT exempt). £14,500 ONO

It is one of the last Generation 1 RX7s sold in the UK. It is not an import.

Its been my pride and joy since I brought it and sadly it is time to sell it as I will be moving to a place without a garage to keep it

It runs very well, with no starting issues either hot or cold. I used to use it as a daily runner when I first got it but for the last 5 years, because of the car having a full restoration and respray, I now keep it in my dry garage when not using it. I have driven the RX7 from the south coast to the lake district, to Cornwall, and to Snowden in Wales with no problems whatsoever.

2 owners, 1 lady owner from new for 33 years and myself for 7 years.

Resprayed to replicate the original ‘Sunbeam Silver Metallic’ paint with maroon interior as well as matching leather steering wheel.
Bodywork is in very good condition and has been completely restored 5 years ago. I have included restoration pictures too.
Original 1970s alloy wheels.
Spare wheel is also matching the original alloy wheels.
Original spare wheel kit is complete, including the jack.
The original 12A rotary engine has only done 96, 000 miles from new!
Stainless steel exhaust from manifold back.
Oil metering pump has been refurbished.
All original parts have been used when they can be sourced.
All the hoses have been replaced.
All suspension, roll bar, and steering bushes have been replaced with polyurethane. I have the bushes for the control rods but have not had time to fit them.

As you can see from the pictures the car only has one electric door mirror. This is how it was sold from the factory. I do have a matching mirror for the other side from a Series 2 RX7, but I have never felt the need to install it as all round visibility is excellent. There is a lot of glass!

The original interior is in very good condition. For example, the back seats look as if they have just come out of the factory.
Vinyl seats, roof lining with the thick pile carpet are all original and in very good condition.
Original 1970’s leather steering wheel.

Amplifier with Bluetooth receiver (music only, cannot be used for hands free calling) has been hidden under the passenger seat and speakers added. These have been discreetly installed and do not detract from the original look and feel of the car.
Remote central locking has been installed for both front doors. Again, this is an aftermarket improvement that has been installed discreetly. If you did not know that it was installed, you would not realise it was there.

If you want to go away on holiday, then you can use the original luggage straps in the boot.

Partial service history
Tax and MOT exempt since 2020.

Feel free to message me I am open to reasonable offers.

Looks very good in the photos and a very rare car in that condition. To me, price is sensible, given its rarity.

Sadly, the market for rare classics seems very quiet at the moment, with prices subdued and well down on the post-covid peaks.

GLWTS.

Hi all,

I had a compression check done on the engine. These are the results when the engine is hot at 257rpm:
Front 7.09, 6.53, 6.48
Rear 6.86, 6.28, 6.36

This is the first time I have had the engine's compression checked since I brought it in 2015. I have never had any hot or cold start issues. When it is hot, the engine turns over maybe twice and then starts. Going by my experience, I feel the compression has been the same for the last nine years.
