Hey all .. just an update. I bought a S4 2kw starter from the Auto non turbo and swapped the nose cone out for the new 1.2kw one I’d bought. It still bolts up a treat and should give me 2kw of starting power when i eventually put everything back in ….

Thank you! Yea she’s never struggled to start but a little extra juice won’t hurt! I’ve upgraded the alternator to a 100A one from the FD so will be able to keep up with it

Haha not yet but I will be! Planning on 0 gauge all round and will adapt the connector according to what I read on the Ausrotary forum.. am I right in saying the S terminal connects to the B post with a short jumper.. and the L terminal connects to the L connector on the factory harness .. the R terminal harness connector isn’t used ?

Nah, you don't want to use a jumper aye. This is the best thread to go off (use the S5 to S1/2/3 RX-7 pic). FD alternator being rated at 100A.

There are a couple of pics in my thread here. I can't remember exactly how I wired it TBH  . Just that I had a little loom I plugged in. I think I used 16mm2 from the starter to alt. Not sure where the smaller cable goes to. I may have some more pics on my laptop somewhere :?

Thank you for that mate! That’s the most detailed post I’ve seen.. the way I was gonna do it would have worked as I still have the choke and check relay in place.. but I think now reading that il do it slightly differently as the jumper can create electrical noise apparently .. il send the B post straight to the starter live post with a 100a fuse/breaker and 0 gauge .. that then goes to the battery live unfused also using 0 gauge .. the S terminal il send straight to the battery live using a 20a fuse and maybe 16 gauge .. terminal L will connect straight to connector L on the factory harness as the choke and check relay is still used so the separate relay and diode isn’t required .. and connector R on the factory harness isn’t used.. as long as there isn’t any blue smoke! Should be a success 😂😂

Nope .. change of plans once again.. S and B need to come from the same source apparently

B terminal to starter live with 0 gauge and 100a fuse/breaker
S terminal to starter live with 16 gauge and 20a fuse
L terminal to L connector as choke and check relay is still used
R connector not used

That should do it !

Once I get it going, il report back if there has been any flames 🙃

That sounds about what I done on my setup aye! It has been a while though hahaha

Flames or not, let us know!

Unfortunately/fortunately, whichever way you look at it.. iv been working flat out this year so haven’t had much time to work on the car.

However…. It’s fitted. Nothings wired up yet as I’m routing the wiring through the wings to keep everything neat and tidy.

The alternator sits lovely.. I eyeballed a pulley which looks like it should work fine.

Iv also used a heim joint to adjust the slack. In hindsight I’d have chosen one about 30mm longer but this one will work fine.

Iv used washers to pack things out for now .. eventually il make spacers up.. but this’ll do for the time being !

The pulleys between the alternator and main pulley, and the aircon pump and main pulley are slightly splayed. But the aircon unit I pulled off the old parts car had the same effect on the belts and this worked fine for years. So I’m not too worried about that!
