Sounds good. I had debated polishing mine. But mine are also possible to open with a table spoon if I wanted (yes. I have tried  ). They could do with being rebuilt if possible

I have accidentally locked the keys in the car a couple of times, with no spare. Wasn't hard to open! One of my projects for next year is an alarm...

....Remember the s3 doorlook comes with a lamp (driverside) so impossible polish it complete to get a stainlesssteal finish.
Interesting. Do any of the UK spec cars have the door lock illumination option fitted? I've never noticed it!

According to the US websites, the external door lock light is illuminated by a slight raising of the door handle. That might explain a mysterious green wire that is connected to the car's CPU and I've traced to the lock area on the driver's door in the past and wondered what it was for. It does go to a circuit which operates the ignition barrel light. Maybe the wiring is installed, but with no handle switch and light on UK S3 cars?...unless I've simply not noticed it!

"It does go to a circuit which operates the ignition barrel light."

That's correct. When i raising of the door handle on my rx7, both lights are shining.
I think it's more easy to find the right position for your key in a dark night then.

Wow, I never realised that! I saw it on the wiring diagram ages ago, when I was researching the "CPU" functions, but thought, like many other things in the diagrams, it was on US spec cars only.

I've just checked mine and I can see the switch cover is translucent, but the light doesn't work :(

Most likely the bulb has blown or, less likely, the switch doesn't operate. I can check the switch pretty easily by detaching the green wire to the CPU and checking for continuity to ground when the handle is lifted. Something to add to the list :D
