Steering box oil top up.

Post by KiwiDave »

Has anyone checked the oil level in their steering box?

My S3 has a S2 steering box fitted. The fill plug is plastic, does it unscrew or simply pry out? I can't find any info.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

The oil often leaks away completely leaving them dry!

It unscrews I think, I used penrite steering box lube, which is supposedly the stuff to use, its very thick so I had to heat it up in an old saucepan first and pour it in hot.

Also the S2 box is a slightly faster ratio, and to most people is the more desirable one. One of the few parts better on a S2 compared to S3, so you have a nice combination there!

Thanks James. I've got the same Penrite stuff, it's a semi fluid grease.

The screw is a helpful combination .. seems unwilling to move and plastic. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? I will try some penetrating spray first.
