2nd little job was to tidy up the fuse block near the battery.

Cleaned up, lacquer applied to metal bracket, PAL fuses (bargain Eurocraparts "end of line" items, about 65p ea)

That looks much better Malcolm... when you did the yellow passivating did you use a heater in the water? When I had my kit I found that the passivating worked much better with warm water but that it soon went cool and the quality dropped off. Keith gave me a fish tank heater which helped slow the temp loss and helped maintain the quality.

I just cleaned and lacquered the fuse holder bracket as there was zero corrosion and the passivation looked OK.

On the previous page, for the carb parts I plated & passivated, I used a "fish tank" heater for plating, but not passivating. I found that leaving the parts in the passivating solution for a bit longer gave a very acceptable finish. I must admit, it's a bit of trial an error when plating, but the more I do, the better the results are getting. However, a great idea, I'll try heating the passivation solution next time and see if that improves things further

I wonder if anyone can explain a strange noise that I have on KIMI 3? It was present on my very first test drive, before I bought the car and hasn't gone away. It doesn't impact in any way on performance or operation of the car, but it's bugging me.

The noise is very similar to a clockwork kitchen alarm timer, whilst waiting for the alarm to operate, a regular ticking sound. It's coming from the instrument cluster area (or behind it). It's not overly loud, but a passenger can clearly hear it with the engine running and driving.

Mostly, it's there on every cold start and disappears when the engine is warm. It does not go away at the same time as the magnetic choke releases; sometimes before that, 99% of the time it will disappear quite a few minutes later. I'm thinking clockwork mechanism in the auto choke, but I've put my head near it and it "seems" to be coming from the dash area, rather than the engine bay (but can't be 100% certain).

Any ideas? It's not a problem, but now seriously bugging me

Upload a soundfile would help a lot. Perhaps the relais of the turn-signal indicator

I'm sure it will be the same issue that I had to figure out, Pretty sure it will be your Hazard Flasher Module. I changed mine out after some frantic Google searches some years ago. The replacement one still has the same issue but very quietly and, as you say, only when very cold.

If your exhaust is reasonably quiet then it's probably more of a nuisance.

You'll find it under the dash, unplug it and the noise will go away. A new unit would probably cure it for good but where are you gonna find one. You'll find used items for sure.

The black unit on the left is what I changed, unsure if the other two are related (but they possibly could be).

Brilliant Dave, that looks worth investigating.

If it turns out to be that, I might even see if the function can be designed/replicated using some more modern electronic components.

I'd be interested in something more modern if you find anything aye. Assuming modern means a lot smaller also
