I never got it working Dave because it was in that silver s3 that got scrapped due to screen rot.
I've got a few series 3 ECU's if you want a free one to try in place of yours to see if that cures it.... they are just a plug-in module so plug and play.
The water temp sensor on the back of the water pump housing sends a signal that controls the electric choke... I don't know if it goes directly to the choke mech or via the ECU but that's something else to check.

Thnx Ian. I get the car back tomorrow so I'll check the ECU fuse first then see where to go from there. Will PM you re test ECU. :)

Ian Do you know how to get to the fuse? Spent a few minutes prising and pressing ... no dice.

I had an issue with the choke failing to hold. I was lucky and replaced this sensor and all was good again.

Probably overly simple since your now looking at the ecu

I know that water temp sensor is part of the system but I've never checked it out to be honest. I should probably just replace it anyway. Where did you source yours from?

Only investigating the ECU because the fuse is known to fail sometimes and it forms part of the circuit according to Tim at RX Motors.

Mine came from Jimmy's and is barely held together, they're quite rare to get as they're fragile now and the wires brake in the same place mostly. I'm sure in this day and age they're must be something similar that could work in it's place.

On my car the system worked fine I till I took parts off, broke the wire , so the cause was simple to diagnose... Self inflicted
