I believe the Mazda Comp Manual has it mounted in this position. Can't remember the exact details off the top of my head though

mine wasnt mounted that way... unless they have some sort of fin funneling air thru it air aint going to flow...

I mean Im dealing with airflow issues thru my radiator as I have my IC mounted slanted in the mouth of the bumper.. just that 45 deg angle is screwing with things so not sure how well a 90 deg one would do haha

How is progress on this aye, Derek? Have you managed to do much driving in it? I'm curious how the steering is :o . Do you think a quick rack would be a bit too much for a street car? :D

Plenty of progress ! If you measure progress by finding out where the problems are and fixing them ! The car is fully up and running and some small issues fixed, like I now have a working fuel gauge, so what you say, but I have a standard fuel tank and sender unit and aftermarket fuel gauge !

I've not done much milage, I need to though, the rebuilt engine, gearbox and diff all need some road miles to bed them in. This year has been a non-event rallying wise as I'm sure you could guess, to add to that I also moved 4 days before the March lockdown.

A quick rack would probably be too much for road use where generally you only need small adjustments to direction, power steering though is so worth the effort, it has transformed the car. And I reckon that it wouldn't be that hard to do on a road car. There is plenty of space to fit the Corsa B unit. It just needs some clever engineering by someone who knows what they are doing. I reckon Dwayne at Silver Fern Performance would be able to, he's done the fit on rally escorts. Worth asking him.

Hahahaha. All sounds pretty good really then! Definitely keen to see some videos with it being used in anger at some point aye.

That is pretty much what I had thought about the quick steer rack aye. Thanks for that. One of my next projects is looking to be a steering rack, which is why I ask. If it wasn't obvious

Definitely look at using the Toyota AW11 or AE86 rack as the splines match the RX7 and MX5 steering column. If you aren't using power assist from the Corsa B unit, then a front steering rack (FC) might be better as you will get a better angle on the steering shaft, but you will need to navigate through the exhaust.

I spent a fortune and a huge amount of time getting mine right, on RHD cars it is a very difficult job.

Once you've tried all sorts of routes and ideas, you will quickly realise why Mazda used a steering box !

my original mounting was at the front of bumper angled as well... we figured it was causing turbulence after ic and before radiator... changed it up to a nice large ic mounted in front of radiator

I am considering changing the cooler I’m currently using and getting something more like the MFR 11 row cooler. Mishimoto do one suitable.
