K27 PLY
Mazda RX7 1st Generation.
Engine: 2200cc 12a Rotary Engine
Manufactured: 1985, Hiroshima, Japan.

The Mazda RX7 1st generation was a 2-seat sports car built by Mazda between 1978 – 1985 and was specifically designed around Mazdas 12a rotary engine which demonstrated the faith Mazda had in their rotary engine by this time.
Development began in the mid 1970’s and the car going on sale in the US in 1987 and in the UK a year later.
The unique feature of the engine being that it featured 2 rotors spinning in specially designed housings rather than pistons, valves & cylinders used in typical petrol engines at the time.
The induction, ignition and exhaust cycles of the rotary engine can be seen in this animation…
This resulted in a very smooth, high-revving power plant, ideally suited to a small, light sportscar.
