Very cool project, MOT exempt too! I was dead keen on this when I saw Ian posted the ad. I think of it was me I’d fit a manual box and paint it Mach green!

Re: Keith's red S1
I connected a battery today and to my surprise everything works
Appart from the engine which appears to be locked solid
Ive also had to break into the car as both doors had seized mechanisms, there was also a broken door handle but I have one on its way to me from halfway accross the globe, didn't realise s1 handles were different. Always lots to learn

Re: Keith's red S1
I wonder whether a 78 is different? I checked my parts catalogues and 79-85 are all the same part number. Left and right have different part numbers but are interchangeable (you just swap the plastic grommet to the opposite side).
PS...photos are great. The car has soo much potential.

Re: Keith's red S1
Hmmm
this is all new to me!!
These are brand new Oz spec handles from my collection, same part number as US and Japan. I checked in the parts booms
Do UK ones look the same?

Funny red line on the speedo @ 60mph. For What?
Also that auto box would have tempted me Keith. As an old Josser, usually driving round laid back with my feet on the dashboard it would have really suited.
