New member with an RX-4 Project

Post by Scabs »

Hi all,

Thought I'd join and say a quick hello, a friend of mine Pete who's a member of this forum directed me to join and share my RX4 project with you all. I have a build thread on aus rotary which I update every couple days or so, I will make a thread on here too if that's ok with the administrators!

I have never owned a FB (although I adore them - as with anything rotary) but I have owned a 96 FD with a big single turbo conversion (T-78) and that was a handful! Now moved on to my dream car an RX4, and then after that an RX-3 (if I can ever get my hands on one).

Currently serving in the Royal Marines and based in Plymouth, none of my close friends have a clue about rotarys so I spend my time trying to explain how great they are ha!

Cheers
Jake

Welcome Jake I have a soft spot for the the RX4 as my father had a '76 929 wagon and my uncle had a '76 929 coupe but both of those had the 1800 piston engine.
Good luck with your rebuild.

Hi dibbs, I would love a wagon they are something special! This one is a Sedan, which in fairness I prefer as I prefer the lights on the rear.

I believe that this one was a UK Rx4 but somewhere in it's lifetime it had a piston conversion so I'm reverting it back to the rotary it came out the factory with. (12a) with plans to peripheral porti and some install some nice big Webber like 51 carbs which I've already imported!

@kiwidave, yes it is mate, it was stripped and left for many years. I don't really have a deep knowlage on restoring cars but I have alot of perseverance to putting it back to it's former glory (with a few personal touches).

Thanks Pete, I may come up to the meet but it will be in a Ford focus and not a rotary 😂.

Take a look at the VIN plate. LA2VS is 929 LA22S is RX4 (12a) LA23S is 13b

The early '73 Rx4 MK1 had a twin dizzy 12a (very rare here). 13b fitted from '74 on

Maybe some markets got the single dizzy 12a, I don't know. Someone on here will know.

Yes it was a LA22S UK auto with a single dizzy. I spoke to a guy who still has the original 12a motor from the car. As you said it's been through a few owners lol
