Wow there really isn't many of them left, kinda sad to see being honest as even just looking at them sitting there is calming and they are the most beautiful cars ever.

Btw whoever runs it just want to let them know of her new location just in case they want to update it etc but I really don't mind as close enough haha: Cookstown area instead of Dungannon area now
If anyone remembers she was on gumtree in 2014/2015 and I actually seen it mentioned on here, yep it's her.

Hi Wolfie, I picked up the new location.....duly entered.
I'm an old guy, dedicated street runner (Captain Slow's elder brother .)
Original car, it's only mods are essentials over time like a stainless exhaust.
Woops....I lie! My car's the Silver one in the top banner with the beautiful red stripe!

I keep my register of FB's which seems to have become the Forum default register....maybe 'cos of me always pushing people for info. I've said it before but the only information I ever release to the net is the location list and anything an owner gives permission for.

The Forum was founded by Ian65 and is still hosted i.e. paid for by that man....thanks again Mate...we all owe you.
On it is old timer advice from some of us, high tech advice from others and downright fun and friendliness from all.

Ok that's good to hear, yea I don't know what mods to do if I'm going to do any, want to keep the car as original as possible so even trying to track down a original cassette player for one as the one in her was long blown and missing the face etc so it is gone, though the wires were in a mess like someone had attempted to wire her up for a more modern cd player or something so I might have to rewire it up to match a cassette player again :/
She is getting a stainless exhaust sometime later in the resto just thinking of trying to get a good system that looks a bit like the original twin pipe.

Hi Corey, welcome, I love your enthusiasm for the car, they are unique because of the engine.

I believe it could be old engine oil, probably diesel, which was a common inexpensive way in years gone by of preserving cars underneath, it mixes with underseal and turns into goo but works well, I have always used it & found it to be excellent, makes undoing old nuts etc a lot easier!

Keep up the good work, it will be worth itwhen your driving around those lovely roads along the N West coast.

Yeh the Silver car is called 'Gus'. It belongs to my wife. It was her daily driver until we retired together a dozen or more years back. Since then miles have been quite limited and it's garaged. I tax it all year round but we only go out for a spin (well a plod really) every 2 or 3 weeks and then only when it's dry. Fortunately our garage is very dry and fairly well ventilated - it's integral with the house - that helps enormously.
Many others on here are desperately jealous of Gus's beautiful red stripe. Not Pete (DKWW) 'cos he's got one. The others keep poking fun but really they're green with jealousy at the authentic 1980's speed boost from the stripe.

Yea might be one of the first places I take her when finish her is there as it's an amazing road to drive and classics are the best for it, been there with dad in the legacy once and it was brilliant so planning to take him there in Rexy this time

I would love to make Rexy my daily but with rarity of parts and then it's always raining here so decided will be safest to make her a weekend and summer car for when it's dry and can enjoy her best
It's not dry that much here so must get annoying when you want to go for a drive and it's raining
Lucky Gus then, the shed Rexy is in is ventilated and dry enough but isn't 100% but it does her for now and there's usually a cover over her when she isn't being worked on to protect her as well.
Hey having stripes just adds that bit of class and beauty to them, love Rexy's black coach stripe, just matches in with them so well, when she is getting a respray which she needs due to paint being crap which might be hard to see in the pics I'm planning on keeping the stripe somehow, whether have to get it remade or whatever I don't know yet as want it exactly as it is

Good luck on the restoration. Lots of work ahead but it will be worth it.

At least exteriors are often salvageable (with enough time/cash). Interiors generally are not and good second hand pieces are hard to find. That interior looks immaculate and better than 99% of Australian cars. Of course, the bodies on our cars aren't generally rusted up badly (except usually in the hatch drip tray area) and only need a paint refresh. If you fit the interior of a northern European car into the body of an Australian car = instant resto.

Yea there is but I don't mind, I have until I'm 25 so I can get her on classic so can actually afford insurance haha that's 6 years so should be done by then.

The interior of her is mint just needs a good clean as bit of dust and stones from boots etc when getting in and out whilst working on her as the shed she is in is in the middle of nowhere where most rally guys test their cars lol always love hearing a old Escort or Impreza etc going flying past back firing.
Really? wish I could get an Australian shell though I've gotten attached to her shell so want to save it and keep her all together if I can. I've seen a few interiors of them here and usually don't look to be too good, her passenger side isn't even marked at all, it's as if no one ever sat in it and the driver's seat is barely used, probably had a cover on it or barely drove it much except summer
Haha that would be too easy though, I was thinking a few years for her when I bought her as wanted a resto so was looking at MGBs and Triumph Heralds etc as cheap restos that would take me a bit but when he said she was for sale I jumped at her

Thanks I'm going to need the luck haha yea she will be worth every second once on the road, just her sitting idling is worth it as sounds amazing.

welcome to the forum
Your car looks pretty tidy from the top but living on grass long term won't have helped the underside. I'd concentrate on making sure the underbody is solid before doing anything else to it. It will look ace when done though.
My car was stored off the road ( but in a garage) for 19 years and looked like this when I first got it...









I gave it a clean up, stripped and painted the engine bay...






changed the interior...



and now it looks like this...
