I wonder what happened to make the insert bulge like that. Looks like frost damage... except there aren't any waterways there are there? :?

Looks excellent now though, Pete

Engine build now nearly complete, just got to tighten E Shaft Nut/Bolt then check End Play'.
New Apex seals went in alright & only got 3 O rings left? Doh!

A word of warning if any one else is thinking of doing the same, when purchasing a couple pots of Vaseline for the build, do not do it in the presence of someone else as "It's for a Engine re-build" does not serve as a valid reason & all sorts of explanations does not work :o

A few pictures so far:-

It was good to hear the loud Squishing sound as it was turned :P :P

good stuff Pete... did you rebuild it as stock or do any porting? Is this going into your car or are you just doing it as a spare?

It has been rebuilt stock, no porting. I have done it as a spare, my engine (touch wood) is still spot on & just done 60K. I did it for the experience whilst the parts are still available, the End Float is now done & is well within tolerance. I took my time & enjoyed doing it, now used up all the 'O' rings.
I think the important part is laying out all the parts first so you do not miss a any, having a good DVD/You Tube/Haynes as they all differ slightly & are mainly for 13B.

I think in the future if & when the engine is needed it will go into a Stock 7 as any need for more power will be satisfied by a 13B. Who knows if the FC vert does not materialise (owner still reluctant to part with it) I may find a needy FB to restore

I would love a RX4.

It's always handy to have a spare engine under the bench, especially if you know its a good one.

I used Rock Auto,
FEL-PRO FS93851 {#N23199100} FULL SETS.

No problems so far, comes with the gaskets as well (Water Pump, Inlet, Exhaust, Sump, OMP etc etc) & Oil Pickup/Filter/Distributor 'O' rings etc.

I bought it last year before the £ went Tits Up, it was $161.
