London to Brighton Classic Run 2016

Post by KiwiDave »

Demons well and truly banished this year! A very hot day as well which threw up a overheating issues for a few of the older entrants. Four Japanese entrants this year for the Classics entry list .. 2 from Mazda and one each from Datsun and Toyota. We were the only rotary powered representative so it was good to uphold rotary honor this time around.
I didn't get to photo all of the 365 strong starting list for the classic entries nor the 100 plus field of kit and sports car competitors so you'll have to make do with a small representative selection.

Start point was Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands

Not sure if this is a side repeater or marker light on the little Viva? Only fitted to the drivers side with no evidence of similar on the other side. Curious.

No, you didn't imagine it ... a 1972 Transit which, in a previous life was an Austrian fire tender.

One of several Austin Healy 3000's in the event.

This is a nice thing. 1947 Dodge Custom. The couple driving were super nice too

The owner is a former British Husky racing champion. The dog is my newest friend and loves touring around in the Dodge.

1967 Mustang. Unusual in brown (although it was a recurring color theme on the event).

Triumphs that ultimately didn't! Stag and TR7

Sorry for the double posting of some pics! P/Bucket was being a real ass ... sometimes it slows my PC down to glacial speed which is most annoying when trying to correct little errors.

I'll try harder next time

Stylish Nash Metropolitan. Designed in America and based on the NXI (Nash Experimental International) concept. The prototype was named NKI - Nash Kelvinator International (yes, Kelvinator as in that refrigerator company).

To keep costs down, it was assembled overseas using existing components and the project was awarded to Austin. It was the first time that an American designed car was entirely built in Europe but destined for the US market only. Austin later got permission from AMC (American Motors Corp) to sell the Metropolitan in markets where AMC did not have a presence
