I picked this gem up the other day from a tow yard... 97k miles on him!
He's a 1984 Mazda RX-7 GLS from California in the USA!
I'm on a big learning curve here as I come from the Nissan Z and Subaru communities. This is my first rotary and I love it!
If anyone can point me in the direction of good info on this thing it would be much appreciated!

Ugh... the post office... I'm going to be dealing with them soon with this car. No FBs in any local junk yards and no local classifieds.
Anyone know where I can score a radio surround/trim piece?
Also, what is a good carb setup? From what I've read the Racing Beat carb and manifold are really the only way to go?

Hey there, nice ride 
Make sure you check the Oil Meter Pump is working properly. I bought a 1984 GS model and the OMP was stuck wide opened. Fouled the plugs a lot. Took me awhile to notice the problem. Luckily it was Wide opened and not the opposite.. anyways! I highly recommend that.
My float bowls also had sticking needle valves, causing the engine to lean out and then die. Not good for the engine :/ Exhaust would get super blood red hot before running out of gas. Poor car.
It's all good now
Also check that your fuel tank is clean.. Dirty fuel is a big no no for rotaries. These tanks have a drain plug. I suggest using it and checking the fuel for rust, etc. Chances are it's getting a little nasty in there. But maybe not.. but my gas tank disgusting. If you can find a side draft weber or dual 36DCD's you'd really open up the 12A. I managed to find a set that were in ok condition (throttle shafts were worn). But man, They sound amazing and really open that motor up. They boast 154hp at the fly with a good exhaust set up, But 2 barrel weber will give around the same power, just not as much low end due to the single barrels.
The stock Nikki is a good carb that can be modded and stripped down to it's barebones, If you want to remove the rats nest and have no emissions. The biggest mod for performance, I think, is a racing beat exhaust manifold and a free flowing exhaust. It can be pricy tho.
