Great stuff Ian. How many attempts did you take at lining up the motor with the gearbox input shaft? If you did it first time then what's your secret? Ballache of an activity at best IMHO

Re: 1986 Series 3 Elford Turbo
it slotted together 2nd attempt Dave..... I jacked the gearbox up to get it at an upward facing angle to suit how the engine was hanging on the crane and then slid them together.... I find it's easier to take the front engine mounting bracket off to join the engine to the box then bolt it back on later before releasing the crane...... I know what you mean though, it can be an ordeal if you leave the gearbox in the car.

Re: 1986 Series 3 Elford Turbo
got it all together, switched the i-phone to video for the first start up/turn of the key and it fired up straight away but all the oil that's been poured into it to protect it whilst it's been off the road for the last few years is taking some burning off
there's clouds of burning oil and steam coming out of it... it needs a good run up the motorway to get it properly hot and burn off the oil/condensation..... I've only taken it for a couple of mile run up the lane so far.
Sounds sweet though. At the moment it's running my rebuilt turbo ( as I don't want to put any more miles on keiths turbo) and my carb as Keiths carb is properly gummed up and needs a full strip.... easy to swap carbs over though, 20 minute job...... I just wanted to make sure everything else worked ok which it does.
Ran a bit cleaner once it warmed up a bit...
Once the oils burnt off I'll drop a new set of plugs into it.

Quick and clean work Ian. Nice to see you are on the rotary road again.
Nice to see you cleaned up your garage before you make the vid
