Hello from Maryland

Post by SE Survivor »

Hi all, just found this site, very curious about European mods, parts, etc. Some very interesting pics of FBs on here. I have an 85 SE,in good condition, bought from original owner in 1993 with 59k on it, everything still works, have kept the car all original. Have had several other FBs previous to this one, my first SE though. Used to be a Mazda tech when these cars were new, loved working on them, wanted an SE but couldn't afford one at the time. Looking forward to interacting with other members here.

Hi Mate, kept it original eh? not many like us left. Just a teeny little Red Stripe on mine........that's good for an extra 20mph at least...

(Well it would be if I ever went above 60mph).

All good on this Forum, Big Modders, Little Modders and also the 'Modding is Taboo' brigade, all are welcome.
Very nicely behaved on here as well.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome, may have a few pics of car. Has 137k on the clock now. Just got new tires, getting hard to find in that size. 1st clutch couple months ago,Exedy street/strip clutch. Has had axle bearings/seals replaced, fluids, filters as necessary. About to get a suspension go thru: Racing Beat springs,Tokico blues, urethane bushings all around. New wheel bearings and seals,Stoptech cryo slotted rotors,Hawk HPS pads and stainless braided brake lines. Ball joints, tie rod ends have no play, all boots are intact, did replace idler arm with Moog HD unit. Noticeable difference in steering with just that mod, had replaced bushings in oe idler arm previously but always had some flex in it as did all other FBs i owned/worked on. Worthwhile upgrade imo. K&N air filter install gave modest power increase, considering RB header, presilencer and keeping stock muffler(paid a lot of money for oem muffler several years ago)as i like the look of the outlet tips more than on replacement mufflers. Cibie headlamps with 120/80 watt bulbs and a relayed harness i made to give the headlight/dimmer switches a break and feed the bulbs what they need to get the most usable light from the power consumed. Another worthwhile mod,do the same to all my other vehicles as well.

It's a shame but we can't fit Moog idler arms on our RHD cars in the UK, the rest of it sounds good thou'.

Up until two years ago, car was titled as daily driver and went thru emissions testing every 2 years and passed. Now titled as historic car and no longer required to be emission tested, why am considering RB header/presilencer. Except for small mods the car is original, down to the paint. I don't want to modify the car in any way that would 1) detract from it's value 2)not let it be returned to pre-modified state. I consider updating suspension and brakes to fall under #1 and any performance mods i'd consider would need to adhere to #2. Don't have any intention of selling the car, just looking to improve the fun factor with a few more horsepower. Have owned a couple other FBs that got heavily modified and while faster and more fun than oe were not as reliable and streetable in the long run.

A7RXY, never considered that. Do you have any aftermarket parts suppliers that manufacture something equivalent to that where you are located?

No, a few of the guys are trying by fitting the front sub frame from FC's that way they change to the rack system, other than that the rest of us deal with the wobble.

spirit r, not certain in what "spirit" to take your post. I suppose it is sarcasm. Possibly German/English translation/grammar. I'll leave it to you to clarify....or not.
