Hooray I've found the problem with Bork (that's the reg)
Oh no wait not happy I've got no compression
So got the compression tester on it today as was last thing to check used a piston engine tester and readings where pretty poor got less than 20 psi on the front that's pulse and overall and got 35-40 on rear pulse and overall compression so a few decisions to make as the car needs a fair bit of work before its road worthy so do I carry on with other bits before I tackle or pay for a rebuild or start straight on the engine.im more of the thought of take the whole thing apart and start from scratch cleaning and fixing as I go will be a long process and was looking forward to a drive this year but I love these cars because of the engine and I like to be a little different so a blown engine has never put me off as I've had a fd for 12 years.

How hard are these things to remove? I've got my manual but I'll tahe a shed load of photos before I start as black and white photos are a bit naff.

I'd say it was relatively easy to remove, but I wasn't thinking about saving a mere rotary.

If you have the space and the time to strip it back and do it all properly then it's definitely worth it. It'll be preserved long past most have rotted away. As to engine removal, it's certainly pretty straightforward. Just take the time to label up all the connectors and pipes as you strip them off, then the actual engine out is a piece of proverbial

I've got space and all the time in the world as it's not my only car but I'd love a drive lol.
Think I'll go buy a little label maker and get stuck in at least it's cheap for the first part as its stripping and cleaning I suppose, would hate to start it and go the route of so many who sell as incomplete or project so I'll have to keep some motivation somehow

Where in the world are you? Be nice to think there'd be someone on here near enough to lend a hand with the engine removal and heavy lifting bits. In my experience it makes it a lot more enjoyable an event than trying to do it single-handed! Getting it back in always seems the harder enterprise

I'm on merseyside not sure I've seen another local car barley see an fd unless i look out the window at mine
Not to worried about the lifting I carried the fd gearbox up the stairs in my lockup myself as no one was around but I'll be bouncing many a question round on here I'm sure. I tend to do most of my bits late evening once kids are in bed but I'll be open to offers if anyone wants to help once I start

Got myself a new all singing and dancing label maker today so I'll come up with my plan of attack tomorrow may strip it all out clean it up and start polishing painting and cleaning or clean polish and paint each bit as it comes out. Doing it the later way may keep me motivated with lots of shinny bits sitting round. I'll try a new thread if I can keep it going running my own business is long hours and I'm sure Bork will take up the rest of my time.

the best advice for any prospective car restorer is to do the bodywork first.... the bodywork is the most time consuming, expensive, labour intensive, soul destroying element of restoring any car and it's the no. 1 item to get out of the way first
Plus once the bodywork is done, it really inspires you to refurb the other parts and finish the job.

So got some time in the garage yesterday and I mean 9pm til 1 am, but I'll take what I can get, but got loads done I'm about an hour or so from pulling the engine out, one or two snapped bolts and one casualty not sure what it is but I'll post some pics or find out what it is, it's down the front of the engine below belts and has the two small tubes that come up to the carb,
Poor Bork was is desperate need of a strip and clean as you will see once I get the pics up, I drained the oil and used a strainer to transfer it to a container but had a blockage or two so it doesn't inspire confidence on the condition of the engine
All pretty straight forward at the min I may send the engine to silverstone auto sport or think there called group b Motorsport now would tackle it myself but want some porting done

Oil Metering Pump. Feeds oil up to mix with the fuel. Usually essential piece of kit but you can put oil in the tank as an alternative (called Pre Mix).
