Air box

Post by DelMonte »

I noticed that when removing the air box this morning, two pipes were pinched closed.

Also the diverter inlet doesnt lead to anything. Not worried, just curious.

Yep, it's cos the air pump and thermal reactor have gone and a conventional exhaust has been fitted....like most have done.

I chose to blank the pipes with bungs rather than squash them but no issue at all.

I have run an elephant's trunk (metallised flex) down from the diverter to the old top heat shield at the exhaust manifold to pick up a bit of heat for the carb on a cold start. On the old reactor system that heat shield sat on a super heavy cast iron cooking pot sort of thing, now in my shed.

You can see the flex and one of the bungs here.

Thanks codge. I may tidy my air box up a bit and the bungs look neater.

May put some metal hosing in too. Could u give me some more info on where it goes?

Thanks ;)

Well the old top heat shield is a scoop sort of thing, like a tiny cooker hood, with a tubular outlet on top and the bottom metallised flex connection just pushed onto it.
It just bolts back in its old location above the exhaust manifold. I use it (hopefully) to collect a bit of heat off the twin exhaust pipes as they leave the engine.

So you could make any shape of air scoop that fits, or look for a scrapper with one still on; that might be difficult I don't know.
