Well the highest Series 2 VIN previously recorded for a car in UK ends in 668063. I had figured that was around the end of the run and it was registered in Feb 1984.

Your brother's car is 22 cars later......looks like left hand drive, is it a car originally supplied into the European market?

Yes, it was sold here in 84´. It was brought here new. Then she was in local dealer for a long time. (I heard that just few months ago)

Car is slowly coming togethers. Made some progress to bro´s FB yesterday. I´m happy, she will look awesome when finished... We recon that She needs b groub tail spoiler though. Just brilliant that bro was able to use those molds. Possibility is that we will make those kits for sale too... ::) Anyone interested...? Also, he has made all classfibre hood and nose peace.

Tuning mirror removed from FD. Looks quite good. And its light weight. But one thing that surprised us is that how much that door weights! It has nothing in side, aluminium inside panel and polycarbonate class. Still very heavy...


"Rear lights". Bro printed his son and daughter names and painted them on top. Cheap and easy idea and looks good. Notice 51mm spacer...


Rear suspension and stuff. Quite ready, needs some paint though...

At this point I have to say that I´m really proud of my brother! He has done amazing job. With unusual car, using weird components and have done thinks to car that has never been done before basically! And without help. It has been long road... I really wish that you guys and gals some day can see that fatarse FB live! Cheers!

It always surprises me that Europe LHD cars have identical VINs to UK RHD ones. You would have thought that the factory codes would be sales market specific - clearly not.
Your VIN fits right into the known Series 3 UK VINs perfectly Thomas.

Earliest known Series 3 VIN is 700116,selling from spring 1984 onwards. Last known is 705582, selling here generally into spring/summer 1986 with a few late sales after that.
Note.....the VIN data above is from a Parkers chassis guide book from about 1990. Were the first 115 cars sold elsewhere in Europe I wonder?

What numbers in VIN tolds you what series the car is? Cause if VIN tolds that bro´s car is series 3, why does it have series 2 diff???

Sorry mate, missed your post.

I think I said your brothers car was a Series 2........distinguished by the '66xxxx' in the serial number run. I meant to say that anyway.
The Series 3 cars have '70xxxx' in the serial number run.

The changeover point was on cars registered sometime early 1984. So your brothers car and Thomas's car are both 1984 but different series.

Dave I will call the time 1983 period of transition and allways can see some parts have changed in 1983 first. The missing lock in the fuel cap,the second washer jet, beehive oilcooler was one of the first changes. Axle and dashboard change was later. You statement is right and europe wide the same. Correct me if I am wrong.
