Hi from Northants

Post by j4cko »

Hi, my name's Tim and i part own an '83 FB with a couple of mates. We bought it last summer, but it is now off the road due to a rather lengthy MOT failure sheet!

I'll put some pics up.

We've put a set of refurbed original wheels in the for sale section to try and raise some funds for the repair bill!

Hi Tim,
welcome to the fb forum! I remember seeing your car arrive at Rotorstock in 2010.... I took some photos of it... I wondered what had happened it.... start a thread in 'rides & projects' and we can follow your work on your car.

cheers,
Ian

Nice to hear from you.

Just compare what you have to pay on MOT fixes to the cost of replacing a couple of sensors on a newer motor and you wont feel so bad.

Go for it.

It was over 2 pages......

The bits are remember are -

Suspension & diff mounts rotten
Front wheel bearings
Handbrake
Headlamp beam
Emissions :D
Slightly too noisy

I'll update the list as i remember the other bits!

Oh the front number plate fell off when they put it on the ramp too. I can't help but think the last MOT place didn't do a proper job on it......

As is well documented by Ian on here, the emissions test is visual only on these cars. We can back that up with hard VOSA data, so if the tester has used the analyser to fail it he could be wrong on that count.

Rotton suspension mounts sounds worse.....any pics?

Others should be reasonably easy.

I'll check on the emissions front.

I haven't been under the car to see the mounts, but i work next door to a metal fabricators, and they owe me a favour!

Hi Tim and a big welcome to the forum :D .
I think some of our rides have probably gone through similar experiences in earlier life  (and perhaps even lately) but feel confident that the 'team' will win through and bring a 'must do' car back to roadworthiness - I'll see if I can help out with the funding for you.
