Rear Seat Belts

some fb's come with rear seat belts, others do not but on series 3 cars, the anchors points for a 3 point seat belt are welded into the shell at the factory...

the bottom fixing base of the rear wheel arch....



and the buckle anchors, under the base of the back seat...



some cars don't come any rear belts, some with only a single lap belt and others with 3 point belts. There should be plastic bungs in the anchor points if they aren't / haven't been used.

I don't know if this also applies to series 1 and series 2 cars, perhaps someone can confirm?

More questions Im afraid! Just reading this post regarding rear seat belts. Do you, or anyone you know of, have any rear seatbelts for a 1984 mk3? I would love to fit these as we worry about the kids in the back without them (that way I would get to use the RX more). My preference would be brown to match the rest of the interior but beggars cant be choosers!!

Are there any opinions on the legality of seatbelts in these cars? Presumably because they were an option, there's no legal requirement to have them in the rear.

Obviously I want the kids to be safe though, so I'm looking at fitting some. I got a set of FD rear belts, but because of where they hide the inertia reel, they're essentially four-point mounting even though they're only three-point belts if that makes sense.... but having stripped out the trim in the FB and found the mounting points it's now clear there's no way you could fit an inertia reel anywhere without it really intruding into the seat and the trim. You'd have to seriously hack up the trim panels and I doubt that a MOT man would be happy about where the reel ended up.

So, I'm thinking of getting some fixed-adjustable non-retractor type belts, like from the Old Days. Are these legal though? Plenty of kit-car and vintage aftermarket shops sell them, so I'm guessing they are, but it'd be nice to know for sure

FWIW, after asking on RR where a lot of BIVA-knowledgeable cats hang out, it appears that you can fit what the hell you want, retracting or fixed, so long as they're safe and the mounting points are free from structural rust (yeah, right... show me an FB without a rusty seat pan )

I just ordered some of these http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/s ... alk-buckle from Car Builder Solutions, which look to be more or less identical to the eBay ones Dave linked, only a lot more cheaperer. I'll report back as and when I've installed them. Or tried to...
